Flowing and Glowing: 5 Ways to Look After Your Hair Health

Healthy hair is what will give our hair its glow. We live in a world of constant hair dying and products that appear to promise the world, but it leaves our hair looking thinner, weaker, and less bouncy than ever. Like our physical health, we’ve got to recognize that hair health comes from the inside out, but we can also benefit from some of the following tactics:

Use the Right Shampoos for You

There’s a huge variety of shampoos on the market that seem to promise the earth. You can benefit from trial and error to see what it does for you, but as a general rule, you want to avoid anything that is going to cause issues with your scalp. Products like the Ethique shampoo bar can help with scalp issues and will be gentle on your hair. We must remember that the right shampoos that can repair the damage will have a low concentration of detergents and are fortified with proteins to strengthen your locks.

Condition Your Hair in the Right Way

Conditioners will make your hair fall straight and be more manageable. But one of the biggest misconceptions is that conditioner needs to go on every part of your hair. Conditioner should only be on the tips of the hair, not the scalp. You should also wash your hair on alternate days depending on your hair type and specific preferences. For example, if you have really dry hair you may benefit from only washing your hair every 3 or 4 days and keeping away from shampoos with chemicals that contain parabens and sulfates, which can cause skin irritation.

Don’t Wet It Too Much

You shouldn’t wash your hair more than you have to. Some people don’t like going a few days without washing their hair, but you could always opt for dry shampoo and also recognize that when you wet your hair this can cause breakage. Water will make your hair swell from the inside, forcing the cuticles up. Therefore, if you can avoid washing your hair where possible you are strengthening it.

Dry Your Hair Naturally

As easy as it is to blow dry your hair, if you add excessive heat this can damage the scalp. When you are going to an important event and need to style it, you can play around with curling tongs and hair dryers, but the best way to go is to towel dry or air dry your hair after shampooing. When you are towel drying make sure that you are gentle and pat it dry because any tough rubbing can damage the fibers.

Eating Healthily

Yes, it’s about the insides of your body as well as what is on your head. We have to remember that our hair is made of amino acids and proteins. The right nutrients are going to protect it better, so think about the best sources of proteins, such as fish, nuts, eggs, and many more.

Keeping your hair healthy is vital, especially as you age. It’s partly to do with the right products but also about ensuring you know the fundamentals are keeping your hair thriving and flowing.
