Guest Fashion Blog: In Praise of the Belt

Accessories can make or break any outfit, and they can also help make an old outfit seem new again. But of all the accessories, the belt is often the one item that can be the most versatile. Once worn to merely keep trousers up, and to also accentuate the most killer of curves, the belt has since found favor on other areas of the body, from the waist, to the torso, to being slung casually across the hips, to even being found under the bust. Whilst the number of colors, designs and sizes of belt on offer today may seem a little odd, the belt’s promotion to must-have fashion accessory has not been undeserved, and knowing how to find designer belts to suit your look and your body shape will help you pick out winning outfits later.

Perfect Pear

If you are a perfect pear, with large hips, a tiny waist, and a small bust, then you’ll need a belt that will attract attention to your enviably small waist. Go for a belt that’s the same color of your clothes for a slimming effect, or if you want to stand out from the crowd, go for a different colored belt with a large buckle.

‘Appy Apple

If you’ve got big boobs and a belly, the belt is most definitely your friend. If you pick the right belt, it will divert attention away from your wobbly bits, so go for a wide belt, not worn too tightly to give the illusion of a smaller stomach.

Sassy Skinny

Skinny girls can also wear belts to accentuate their slight curves. Avoid a wide belt at all costs, as this will overpower your frame, instead opt for an average width or slim belt to keep everything in proportion.

Pretty Petite

If you’re small and want to look that little bit smaller, keep your belts as narrow as possible, and match them to the color of your outfit. Wide or clashing belts will only bring spoil the illusion of length in your torso.

Whilst belts are great for accentuating your best bits and skimming over your flaws, they can also be a very versatile addition to any wardrobe, and men’s designer belts are especially good to wear as an altogether different accessory, such as jewelery or adornment for a bag.
