Snackcident Prevention from Lesser Evil Snacks

LesserEvilSnacks

Wary of the freshman five?  Or the sophomore, junior, or senior five, for that matter?  “College food” typically consists of greasy potato chips, bags of candy, pizza, burgers, fries- and chocolate coated anything.  When you’re surrounded by mountains of junk food, how can you not gain weight?

Getting regular, healthy meals is definitely a challenge when you’re living on campus.  Fruits and veggies can be a pricey alternative to the dollar menu at any fast food joint, and certainly aren’t as convenient to get ahold of.  Plus, it’s a heck of a lot easier to store bags and boxes of food that doesn’t require refrigerator!

So, what should you do?  Well, as always, you should eat (and snack!) in moderation.  Exercise is great, but lugging books can be exhausting without burning enough calories.  That means, maintaining a healthy weight usually comes down to making smart food decisions.

Enter Lesser Evil Snacks.  Their philosophy?

“For all of us who love to snack and want to live a better life, we declare that in everything we do, we will strive to make the world a little “LesserEvil” by making it a little better! How, you ask? We’ll make healthier products that actually taste great. We’ll operate in an environmentally sound manner. We’ll strive to treat our customers, trade partners and team members just like we would want to be treated. And we’ll constantly ask ourselves: how can we make it even LesserEvil?”

But more importantly, let’s talk about their snacks!  I got to try a delicious range of their products, which are divided into two main categories:  Krinkle Sticks and Kettle Corn.  The Krinkle Sticks are a much healthier alternative to potato chips; they average about 110 calories and 2.5 grams of fat per serving (1 cup).  The same serving of Lays Wavy Potato Chips has 150 calories and 10 grams of fat!  They actually look like french fries, and have the same satisfying crunch as your usual snacks- plus, they’re available in Sea Salt, Veggie, and Sour Cream & Onion so you won’t get bored mucnhing the same snack over and over again.

kettle corn

The Kettle Corn, to me, is the real standout product.  There are two versions- Classic and Black & White.  The classic is sweet and delicious; it satisfied even my most intense cravings for something sweet!  Even better?  The Black & White version, which is a mix of Classic and Cocoa Dusted kernels.  Each flavor is 110 calories and 2 grams of fat per serving (1 cup), although I can’t honestly say I stopped at one serving…  However, even if you’re having a stressful night and go for double, you’ll still have consumed less than half the fat in one serving of potato chips!

Next time your mom asks if you need her to send you anything, I suggest you send her the link to Lesser Evil’s Variety Packs!  I love the Official Snackcident Prevention Pack, which includes not only delicious snacks, but also fun stickers, magnets, etc!  However, if you’re not willing to wait, you can buy Lesser Evil products at Whole Foods, Safeway, and a slew of other retailers- which you can locate here.

Ladies- you now have no excuse not to be snacking smart!
