2010 BAFTA Awards Celebrity Looks for Less!

Posted on: March 08, 2010 @ 3:00 pm     No Comments »

The stars all shined at the 2010 Bafta Awards in London – and now you can too!  Below are some fabulous celebrity dress matches from Maggy London (available at Nordstrom) and all are under $200!  Happy shopping!

Maggy London Sleeveless Stretch Satin Sheath Dress

Claire Danes looked stunning at the BAFTA awards, but her dress is far out of my price range.  Nordstrom offers an equally gorgeous option that’s stunning for Spring!  The ruching helps create a sexy, hourglass figure and the long tie provides eye catching detail.

Maggy London Illusion Mesh & Chiffon Dress

Sheer is a big trend right now, and Kate Winslet pulls it off without being over the top.  This dress from Nordstrom gives you a way to be sheer without being too (read:  slutty) – and the cinching at the waist is a gorgeous touch!

Maggy London Beaded Metallic Jacquard Shift Dress

Kristen Stewart’s dress (and shoes!) are beautiful.  She totally ruins the look with her disgusting hair and pissy face.  Wear this fab option from Nordstrom with a smile (and some dry shampoo) and you’ll like 100 times better, on or off the runway.

Maggy London Chiffon & Charmeuse Halter Dress

Gabourey Sidibe selected a lovely cream dress that helped define her waist and add interest to the red carpet.  This Maggy London dress will shrink your waist and flatter your bust and is perfect for any upcoming parties or events!

Leonor Greyl, Celebrities & The Sundace Film Festival

Posted on: February 04, 2010 @ 9:00 am     No Comments »

Leonor Greyl, if you recall, is a brand I’m quite fond of.  I’ve been lucky enough to try several of their fab hair products – and so did several celebrities at the Sundance Film Festival!

Hairstylist Stephen Lewis worked on Kate Mara at Sundance on Friday using
Leonor Greyl products. Read on for a breakdown of how he achieved her look:

“Kate Mara wanted to wear a hat but I applied some Serum de Soie Sublimateur
to her dry hair and worked it in. I then ran a blow dryer through her hair
to give it volume and a tussled look. I finished the look with Eclat Naturel
on my fingertips and she was ready to go!”

Here is a quote from hairstylist Stephen Lewis, who worked on Julianne Moore
for a “Smooth and Sleek Sundance Style”:

“Julianne wanted a simple but sophisticated look for her press in Sundance.
I applied Leonor Greyl Serum de Soie Sublimateur to her wet hair and
blow-dried her hair with a large round brush. It made her hair shiny and
polished without looking greasy, and it held really well in the wet, snowy
weather. For a finishing touch, I applied a small amount of Leonor Greyl
Eclat Naturel on her ends. She looked great!”

Hairstylist Stephen Lewis worked on Catherine Keener at Sundance on Friday
using Leonor Greyl products. Read on for a breakdown of how he achieved both
her morning and evening looks:

“This morning was a very loose look. I like to work with her natural waves.
I lightly spritzed the hair with water then applied Serum de Soie
Sublimateur and worked it into the hair. Then I dried the hair and applied a
small amount of Eclat Naturel on the ends. For the evening, I applied Serum
de Soie Sublimateur to her wet hair and then blow-dried it with a large
round brush. I then applied Mousse au Lotus Volumatrice to the crown of her
head for volume. I finished the look with Eclat Naturel. A little goes a
long way and makes the hair look very polished.”

Rihanna in Anoname Denim

Posted on: January 30, 2010 @ 7:00 am     1 Comment »

Rihanna wears Anoname “Paris” skinny jean in the light, ripped up “Driftwood” wash while attending the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards backstage Day 2 at the Staples Center in LA.

The jeans retail for $110 and will be available in April from Anoname.  Kate Beckinsale has also been seen sporting a pair.

I love Rihanna’s style, although I’m not crazy about the midriff baring top featured in this particular ensemble.  The jeans, shoes, and over-shirt are all rockin’, but I wish she’d chose a different shirt to make her statement.

What do you think of her hair?  I’m really loving this style and wish I had my own stylist so I could rock some of the wild looks she does.

“Anonamé Jeans(pronounced a-NA-nah-mee) is a unique denim line that fills a void in the market – a fashion forward, flattering, contemporary jean that hovers around $100 – $120 retail. Anonamé can be merchandised right next to the ‘it’ premium denim brands of today, and provide customers with a fashion-forward alternative in the form of unique washes and novelty details previously unseen at this price point. They can be an impulse buy jean (because you know a girl can never have too many pairs of jeans!), or a way to invest in a modern trend without spending $200.”

Normal posting will resume shortly; I’ve got some great ideas on how to spend that holiday cash and what to wear for New Years.  Stay tuned!

10% Off from Torrid & the Dave Thomas Foundation!

Posted on: December 17, 2009 @ 7:00 am     3 Comments »

days

“Torrid is thrilled to work with the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption this holiday season.  We can’t think of anything more important than finding forever families for the thousands of children in the US who are waiting for a permanent, loving family.”
-Chris Daniel, Torrid President

I already love Torrid for their selection of plus size fashions, footwear, and accessories.  I now love them even more for supporting such a wonderful cause.  And 10% off isn’t too shabby either, huh?  I could easily spend a couple hundred dollars just on graphic tees, so a discount like that adds up quickly!

I’m obsessed with these Alice in Wonderland tops, and plan on adding them to my wardrobe ASAP!  I’m looking at you, Santa…

Disney's Alice in Wonderland - Mad Hatter Tee Disney’s Alice in Wonderland – Mad Hatter Tee

No, you’re mad. Mad as a hatter! Johnny Depp is on the front of this tee dressed as the Mad Hatter in the hotly anticipated Tim Burton adaptation of this children’s classic. The words “You’re mad” appear in a blue and purple ombre.

Disney's Alice in Wonderland - White Queen V-Neck Tee Disney’s Alice in Wonderland – White Queen V-Neck Tee

Internet exclusive! Have a game of chess with your favorite cat-turned-queen. Anne Hathaway is on the front of this tee as the White Queen in the Tim Burton adaptation of this beloved children’s classic. Roses with faces and hot-pink fleurs-de-lis in background.

Disney's Alice in Wonderland - Alice Keyhole Tee Disney’s Alice in Wonderland – Alice Keyhole Tee

A Torrid.com exclusive! Get a peek inside the world of the hotly anticipated Tim Burton flick with the first of our Alice in Wonderland tees. It features Alice herself as seen through a keyhole framed with silver flourishes.

And while I’m not a Twilight fan, I know these tees must be quite popular as well!

New Moon - Give Up Your Soul Tee New Moon – Give Up Your Soul Tee

“Why are you so willing to give up your soul?” asks this black tee. Well, for him, wouldn’t you? A screen of Bella and Edward pre-smooch also appears on the front. The Twilight Saga: New Moon logo is on the back.

New Moon - Edward Amber Eyes Tee New Moon – Edward Amber Eyes Tee

Amber alert! Edward is screened on the front of this black tee with his “vegetarian”-induced amber eyes. “Edward Cullen” and The Twilight Saga: New Moon logo also appear.

New Moon - Grey Jacob Protector Tee New Moon – Grey Jacob Protector Tee

You need one where he has his shirt on so you can wear it around Mom. Jacob takes a protective stance in front of a ghostly Bella, accented with wolf pack tattoos and flourishes. The Twilight Saga: New Moon appears across the middle.

And I’m head over heels for this dress!

New Moon - Bella's Green Taffeta Dress New Moon – Bella’s Green Taffeta Dress

Ciao, Bella. Be mistaken for Edward’s main squeeze when you rock this green taffeta dress, as worn by Bella in The Twilight Saga: New Moon. It features a pattern of flocked roses, velvet trim at the waist, and lace trim on the neck and sleeveless arms. Back zip entry.

Happy shopping!

Dress Up Challenge!

Posted on: August 18, 2009 @ 6:00 am     5 Comments »

duc

I’ll admit it now and get it out of the way- I’m as easily amused as a five year old. And, I occasionally become addicted to online games. A few days ago, I was checking out Lifetime’s website (because they’re the new home of Project Runway!) and found a new one. Uh oh…

Dress Up Challenge is basically the coolest thing, ever. There are two “games” you can play- one’s focused on designing, and one’s a styling/makeover game. In the first one, you get to virtually design pieces of clothing by choosing from a huge selection of clothing styles (shirts can be customized in the sleeves, torso, and bust area, etc.). Once you have a template for the clothes, you can select colors, patterns, graphics, and other adornments. When you’re done, you can put them in your “closet,” which brings you to the second part of the game!

In the “Do a Makeover” section of the site, you get to personalize every aspect of your model. You pick her skin tone, eye color, hair style and color, makeup style and shades, accessories– and of course, the clothing!!! There’s a huge selection of items (everything from bras to tights, coats to purses, tops and pants, skirts and dresses) already, plus all the pieces you design to play with. New items are constantly being added, and each day you log in you get a “gift” of a new item to add to your closet.

10450897

Sorry for the tiny image- but the photo above is of my “signature look.”  It’s my favorite of the billion outfits I’ve created so far, so I thought I’d share!  There are different backgrounds so you can “set the scene” for your girl, too!

outfit 2

I’ve been watching past seasons of Project Runway lately, and Dress Up Challenge totally engages the creative urges it causes, without forcing me to engage my shitty sewing skills.  And, if the show is making you feel competitive, too- there are frequent design challenges (a recent fave was designing an outfit for the first lady) that will earn you points and recognition- even if it’s only online!

outfit 3

Oh, and it’s also a really fun way to decide what will look spectacular in your fall wardrobe!
