Vintage Revolution Jeans

New York, NY — A new denim brand has launched to revolutionize the premium market. Vintage Revolution (VR) jeans for men and women will land in over 400 major department and specialty stores for Fall 2010, including Bloomingdale’s, Fred Segal, Lisa Kline, E Street Denim and National Jean Company and more, at a retail price range of $118-$148.

VR was founded by Jose JuanMarcos, a third generation owner of one of the largest and most technologically advanced premium denim factories in North America. In January 2010, JuanMarcos hired Michael Press as brand president to bring the line to market.  Press was most recently the president of Earnest Sewn and prior to that held VP positions with Paige Premium Denim and Koos Manufacturing, creators of AG Jeans and Big Star. Press was also an integral part of bringing Diesel and Replay to the US market.

Press explains, “We are a breath of fresh air in the denim market, a true denim brand with classic fits and a broad range of indigo washes, not just dark and skinny. We have repeatedly heard from buyers that our line has the best palette of washes they’ve seen in a long time. Our jeans are crafted by a 40 year-old denim powerhouse in North America, so we are returning to denim’s ‘true blue’ roots while also incorporating new techniques and sustainable factory practices.”

As a factory owned brand, VR offers a unique benefit to both retailers and consumers by bringing a superior premium denim product to the market at a price that the majority of other denim brands can’t match. Thomas George, buyer for E Street Denim in Chicago says, “VR starts the move toward denim heritage – simple, straight forward, and easy to buy for both the store and the consumer.” With Press’s invaluable industry relationships and his team of seasoned staff, the line is poised to undoubtedly become the next “it” denim brand, paving the way for a zeitgeist in denim and cementing the new sweet spot – the nexus of quality, styling and price-point in the premium market.

VR draws inspiration from the definition of its name – a celebration of timeless style coupled with a spirit of rebellion that is reflected in each piece they create. VR rebels against assembly line jeans and the inflated ideas about premium denim that exploded over the past decade. The VR customer wants to throw on their favorite pair of jeans and wear them without thinking, because they’re busy living their lives.

Vintage Revolution is based in New York City at 250 West 39th Street, Suite 1800 in the heart of the fashion district.

It’s all about making love this summer! From our sexy Summer of Love Face Bronzer to the cheeky guys on our NEW Pocket Rocket Lip Glosses, you just might be inspired to host a love-in!

This summer, we gave free reign to our rebellious side. (Actually, when don’t we?) We were inspired to create a psychedelic offering of colors that made us feel…well, just plain BEAUTIFUL, man.

And while we can’t give you the summer off to dance barefoot and experiment with happy pills…we can give you that lovin’ feelin’ all season with a little help from your friends.

Summer of Love Shadow Palette $29

Say goodbye covered shoulders, hello sexy, when you wear these three golden neutrals together for a summery bronzed look. Our mix of textures gives you layers of silky-soft shimmer and flashy bits of gold. Play with how you blend them; from an au naturel glow, to a smoky eye with a bright pop. Bold against a tan. Feel the love in this palette, which includes a travel-sized Sin Eyeshadow Primer Potion (to keep your look going strong on those long summer nights) and 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil …an addicting treat for any free spirit. Complete with mirror and magnetic cover (and some groovy vintage photos inside), you’ll want to host your own love-in.

Summer of Love Polish Kit (7 Shades) $28

Hard to choose which shade of polish you want? Celebrate free love with all of them! More arousing than full-size single bottles, this kit of IT girl polishes delivers punchy, offbeat shades of teal, orange, pink and orchid that will drive you absolutely mad. Your healthy inner hippie will appreciate that all of our colors are formulated without toluene, formaldehyde, or DBP and your analytical left brain will love the 220-strand brush for a highly detailed application of color. Fit them all into a purple faux suede zipper case and you’ll be ready to swing.

Pocket Rocket Lip Gloss in Max $19

Laid back and ready to get tubed, Max loves being salty and wet, and puts his all into making you feel swell. Undress him with a flick of your wrist and watch the tide rise.  Also meet new shade Colin.

Urban Defense Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20 $32

Hate fussing with heavy foundation, but need something that really performs? Seek protection with our Urban Defense. This formula is free of parabens and fragrance, is loaded with our multi-mineral complex, battles free radical damage, AND has SPF 20… watch out! Even better, its light-diffusing pigments diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, providing a youthful finish. Since it’s buildable, Urban Defense always has just the right amount of tint… wear it alone for light coverage (great for warm outdoor weather) or under powder for an extra polished look. Apply Urban Defense after your cleansing/toning ritual and you’re ready to face the day with moisture, sheer coverage and SPF 20 at your service.

Skindinavia Makeup Setting Sprays $26 – $29

Each spray addresses a different skin concern, but all are formulated to keep your makeup right where you want it!  I’m most intrigued by De Slick and am hoping to pick up a tube before I head out West for vacation later this month.  De Slick is also available in a new gel formula; great for touch ups on the go.

I’m really digging this whole new collection and it’s relaxed summer vibes.  What are you loving about it?  Have you picked up any of these products yet, or added them to your wish list?  Let me know in the comments below.

The Garden Collection by H&M

“The Garden Collection by H&M is made with environmentally adapted materials like recycled polyester, organic cotton, and organic linen.  By choosing these garments you contribute to a more sustainable world.”

H&M’s Garden Collection is everything I want Spring to be.  It embodies the fabrics, textures, colors and prints I want to be wearing right now.  I’m dying for an H&M to open closer to me, as I’m HOURS from the nearest location.  That puts a little damper on all these gorgeous Spring blossoms, no?

Of course, I brighten up again when I look at the prices.  Most pieces are in the $12 – $30 range, which is about as much as a bouquet of flowers.  Very affordable, very chic, very pleasing.  Not all the pieces below are entirely wearable, so consider those items eye candy.  Or perhaps you’re the time of person who can plausibly wear floral capri pants – but if you’re eagerly nodding yes, do take another look in the mirror before heading out.  I’m suspicious.

Below are some of my favorite pieces from the collection.  All images are courtesy of H&M and have been provided by the company.  For more information on the collection and to find your nearest H&M, check out their website.

Bamboo is the newest wonder ingredient to hit the beauty world – and not just in product packaging!  Previously, I’ve seen bamboo advertised in product packaging or used for things like cosmetic brush handles.  Now, however, it’s actually being used in the products themselves – and producing great results!

Because bamboo can be harvested and replenished very easily, with little disruption to nature, it’s a great sustainable material.

Check out the range of ways bamboo is being used in the beauty world; some great options are featured below!

Naturopathica Lemongrass Mimosa Body Scrub

Micro-ground Bamboo exfoliates the outer layer of skin, while extracts of Sugar Cane, Citrus and Apple penetrate for deeper exfoliation.  Combined with zesty Lemongrass and exotic florals of mimosa, Jasmine and Ylang Ylang, this treatment energizes while removing dry, dull skin.

Darphin Nourishing Smoothing Body Scrub

A nourishing, smoothing Darphin body scrub developed with natural and organic ingredients. Containing a subtle blend of essential oils and three exfoliating ingredients, this translucent aromatic gel texture is enriched with visible natural cranberry extracts, bamboo particles and silica powder for a multi-level exfoliating scrub. This scrub transforms into a gentle, nourishing milk on contact with water revealing softer, smoother, more supple skin.

Physicians Formula Bamboo Wear Silk Bronzer

This 1st ever illuminating Bronzer is 90% natural and infused with Bamboo Silk, a highly sustainable resource with renewing benefits for the skin. Bamboo Silk helps to even skin tone, condition, tone, lift and brighten the complexion, as well as absorbs oil for a perfect bronze finish.  The exclusive bi-colored powder design helps to deliver the most natural-looking bronze finish.  The Bronzer refill is sold separately to encourage and emphasize a philosophy of re-use and renewal.  Available at mass retailers nationwide.

Bamboo Cosmetics Bamboo Eyelash Enhancing Serum

Bamboo extract is as the richest know source of natural silica, essential for hair growth and shown to prevent hair loss. Bamboo Eyelash Enhancing Serum is a lash fortifier that supports eyelashes’ natural growth, making them appear volumized, longer and sexier. Intensify the beauty of your own lashes with Bamboo Cosmetics Eyelash Enhancing Serum. Bamboo Eyelash Serum uses a double headed applicator which features a unique system that allows use both day and night. Daily makeup may be applied after allowing product to dry for a few minutes.

Suno’s opening presentation was jaw dropping to say the least.  Using their signature Kenyan prints, designers Max Osterweis and Erin Betty playfully combined them with fresh innovative ones.  This chaotic mix of patterns gave off and fun, lively vibe that any party girl would want to add to her collection.

Manicurist Amber Stores used Tasha with a thin coat of Jolie to create a luminous look flattering the make-up. Prior to polishing Amber prepped each set of nails using Zoya Remove + and Anchor Topcoat finishing with Armor Basecoat.

Diesel Black and Gold’s Fall 2010 show screamed confidence. They stuck with the distressed, faded jeans, but this time they add a more gothic/ western vibe to their looks.  This season had a plethora of black denim to choose from and for the more adventurous type there was a pair of black leather pants paired with a denim long sleeve shirt. All over the board there was black in denim and leather form, flannels, light blue denim pieces, and clean, tailored suits sprinkled in throughout the collection.

Manicurist Amber Stores sprayed each hand with Zoya Germinator prior to manicure. She then prepped each nail with Zoya Anchor basecoat as well as with Zoya Get even. She then polished each nail with a base of  Zoya Nail Polish in Tasha and then a top layer of Zoya Nail Polish in Erin creating a gorgeous nude nail.  After polishing she finished with Zoya Anchor Topcoat and Zoya Renew. Lastly, for a nice, sweet touch Zoya Lemon Dream lotion was used to soften all hands.

Layers! Something must have been in the water at Fashion Week because almost everyone was using layers, including Thuy.  Thuy, however, used layers with pockets and folds creating a beautiful hip fullness.

Thuy also used nudes using Zoya Tasha was used as a the base color with Zoya a layer of Erin over the top for a bit of glamour. Manicurist Sunshine Outing prepped each nail with Zoya Remove+ and Anchor basecoat finishing with a topcoat of Armor.

Thuy brought the crowd, and in this crowd were some BIG names, Kim Kardashian, Housewives; Kelly Bensimon, Danielle Staub, Jill Zarin, Alix McCord, Simon Van Kempen, Tabatha Coffey, Olivia Palermo, Kimberly Guilfoyle, Eve Salvail, Susie Essman, Mia Moretti, and Markus Klinko.

Combining art and fashion in a gallery presentation, Susan Cianciolo’s Fall 2010 collection was more of a performance piece than the usual standing model presentation. The show Underneath the, Sea Inside a Mountain used the artistry of clothes, makeup and nail design to transport viewers to a place where they could frolic through the fields with Julie Andrews or if they so pleased, swim the seas with Ariel. Flower Children and Mermaids in an explosion of hand crafted colors and patterns all under the flashes of an artfully placed group of Japanese paparazzi. A performance indeed!

Happy to have over 300 fashion colors to choose from to create her part of the vision, Manicurist Jackie Saulsbery prepped each nail with Zoya Remove+ and Zoya Anchor Basecoat and then polished the nails in a rainbow of colors including Zoya Veruschka, Zoya Gia, Ibiza and Zoya OC Cooler and finished each look with glossy coat of Zoya Armor.

Romantic Fantasy is the ideal way to describe JSong’s collection. Designer Way Zen used the motto In Nature’s Magical Garden and the clothes definitely represented that. JSong followed the main theme of fashion week this season, layers, with a unique JSong spin using layers of eyelets in the shape of leaves, crochet shawls, and sheer tops with patterns similar to peacock feathers.

Manicurist Jackie Saulsbery prepped each nail with Zoya Remove+ and a basecoat of Anchor. She used Zoya Suzanne, Zoya Tasha, Zoya Jessika, Zoya Bailey and finished with a topcoat of Armor.

Zoya at New York Fashion Week! (Part 1)

NYFW: Toni Maticevski – Fall 2010
SHOW DATE: Thursday, 2/11/2010 – 2 PM
LOCATION: Altman Building (135 W. 18th St.)

PRODUCTS USED
: Zoya Remove+, Zoya Anchor Basecoat, Zoya UltraGlitter in Nova  with Zoya Nail Polish in Casey, Sloane and Richelle, Zoya Armor Topcoat.

Designer Toni Maticevski isn’t big on providing media with his source of inspiration. He prefers the viewer to think about what they see rather than telling them what “to see”. It is this interpretation that allows the beauty of Maticevski to be that of the beholder. Exaggerated doll-like layers and ornamentation took this viewer straight to Hollywood with a visions of starlets making the scene.

Nails complimented the clothes, hair and makeup and worked double duty as accessories. Led by the creative Dhav Naidu, Manicurist Sunshine Outing and team treated each nail as a unique canvas using Zoya Nail Polish in Casey for the warmer skin toned models and Sloane for the cool chickies. Zoya Richelle and Nova UltraGlitter went on ring fingers as accent color with Zoya Armor topcoat delivering the glossy finish.

NYFW: Peter Som – Fall 2010
SHOW DATE: Wednesday, 2/13/2010 – 1 PM
LOCATION: Milk Studios (450 W. 15th)

PRODUCTS USED:
Zoya Remove+, Zoya Anchor Basecoat, Zoya Nail Charity, Zoya Armor Topcoat.

Using muted color, layers, and printed fabrics the chaotic yet controlled vision of Peter Som for Fall 2010 was refreshing to say the least. The added touch of Swarovski crystals enriched this diverse collection even more.

Manicurist Jackie Saulsbery prepped each set of nails using Zoya Remove + and Anchor prior to polishing with the muted mauve Charity and finishing with a topcoat of Armor. The look complimented the bruised makeup (black plum lips!) and overall moody black palette of the show.

NYFW: Joseph Altuzarra – Fall 2010
SHOW DATE: Wednesday, 2/13/2010 – 1 PM
LOCATION: Milk Studios (450 W. 15th)

PRODUCTS USED: Zoya Remove+, Zoya Anchor Basecoat, Zoya Nail Polish in Tasha and Erin, Zoya Armor Topcoat.

The fashion “in crowd” shows up for Joseph Altuzarra and everyone takes notes. In just a few seasons Altuzarra has managed to capture lots of attention with his recognizable looks and quality details.

To compliment the dark almost oily eye and gray/nude mouth created by the makeup team, Manicurist Indigo Smith and team prepped each set of nails using Zoya Remove + and Anchor basecoat prior to polishing in nudes then finishing with a glossy Zoya Armor topcoat.

NYFW: Leanne Marshall – Fall 2010
SHOW DATE: Saturday, 2/14/2010 – 4 PM
LOCATION: Union Square Ballroom

PRODUCTS USED: Zoya Remove+, Zoya Anchor Basecoat, Zoya Nail Polish in Jo, Zoya Nail Polish in Betty, Zoya MatteVelvet in Harlow, Zoya Armor Topcoat.

Leanne Marshall the designer has arrived. Moving from typography as inspiration last season to topography (maps) this season the looks shown at the 2010 Fall Leanne Marshall show reflected the designers personality perfectly. Leanne’s work has greatly matured since winning Bravo’s Project Runway in 2008, now unafraid to be true to her own fragile nature, Marshall created a romantic vision for Fall 2010. The collection was true to her roots – yes, the layers are still there but now they are less structured and everywhere from coats to evening wear.

Manicurist Jackie Saulsbery prepped each set of nails using Zoya Remove + and Anchor prior to polishing and finished with an ultra glossy topcoat of Armor.

NYFW: Bibhu Mohapatra – Fall 2010
Show Date: Monday, 2/15/2010-12:30 PM
Location:  Marianne Boesky Gallery ( W 22nd St)

Products Used: Zoya Remove+, Zoya Anchor Base Coat, Zoya Nail Polish in Sasha, Zoya Nail Polish in Blair, Zoya Armor Topcoat.

Bibhu Mohapatra had a major amount of hype surrounding him this year and that is all thanks to his nomination for a Rising Star Award by the Fashion Group International and his recent grant he received from the CDFA (Council of Fashion Designers America) and the New York Economic Development Corporation. Along with 11 other designers, Bibhu will be given a reduced rent in the NYC Garment Center as well as mentoring and other opportunities. This coveted spot in the CFDA Fashion Incubator and being one of the finalists for the Rising Star Awards lands Bibhu in the thick of it all with the full support of Council of Fashion Designers America and The Fashion International Group.

Given all the buzz, People were practically bursting at the seams to get into the art gallery that held his 20’s inspired collection.  Feminine and fitted pieces created an elegance that any female today would want, making Bibhu’s collection old-fashion as well as modern at the same time.

Manicurist Jackie SAULSBERY working with the Zoya Design Team came up with the combination of a full coat of Sasha layered with a thin coat of Blair creating a deep sparkly look.  Each set of nails was prepped using Zoya Remove + and Anchor prior to polishing and finished with an glossy topcoat of Armor.

Spring 2010 Handbag Trends (Pt. 2)

March 9th, 2010 by Laney

Welcome to Part 2 of my Spring 2010 Handbag Trend overview.  Whew – what a mouthful!  What were your favorite trends from Part 1?  I have mixed feelings about the trends below, so take a look…

STRAW

Straw

Admittedly, I was pretty wary of this trend.  I grew up in Vermont, which was a land of mullets and flannel – so straw handbags seemed like I’d see something the locals carrying.  After some searching, though, I discovered that straw handbags can actually be pretty!  The ones above have great texture, colors, and embellishments – which are the three things that make a handbag fun and fabulous.  And believe it or not…  several are carried by Wal-Mart.  Below are direct links so you can learn more about each bag, from left to right, top to bottom.

Cappelli Seagrass Straw Tote $40.50

Straw Studios Lily Bow Satchel $33.45

Straw Studios Brown $57.95

Yellow Straw Tote $33.60

Cappelli Medium Hand Woven Multi Straw $32.40

Cappelli Black Toyo Bag w/Beaded Handles $48.60

BRIGHT/NEON COLORS

Neon

Now neon is a trend I can really get behind!  I love bright colors and a handbag really adds a great pop to any outfit.  Lime green is my favorite color, I’m crazy about pink, and I’m feeling particularly drawn to yellow right now.  Above are some of my favorite neon handbags, but there are tons available!  Whatever your favorite color, keep wearing it this Spring – just find a brighter shade!  All of the selections below are from Handbag Heaven; use the icon at the bottom of this post to access the site and save 15% off your purchase!

Hayden Buckle Hobo $51.95

Caitlin Clutch $31.95

Ribbon Shoulder Tote $43.95

Spring Patent Quilted Tote $27.95

Lucy Patent Handbag $52.95

Haley Pleated Shopper $72.95

CROSS BODY (LONG STRAP)

Cross-Body

Cross-body bags are another trend I originally thought best kept in the 80′s…  But since some of my favorite designers and brands are on board with the look, there are actually some very chic options available!  If you have a fuller figure, this might not be the best trend for you – unless you stick to a very thin strap.  Otherwise, a thick strip dividing your figure in half cross-wise will likely be unflattering.  The only real issue I have with cross-body bags is that the strap tends to wind up caught between my boobs, which is awkward and unsightly.  Just something to consider!

Allison Messenger Tote $39.95 (Handbag Heaven)

Fossil ‘Capri’ Crossbody Bag ($78)

MARC BY MARC JACOBS ‘Croc of Q – Big Percy’ Crossbody Bag ($148)

Juicy Couture ‘Padlock & Key’ Leather Crossbody Bag ($148)

Nordstrom Embroidered Crossbody Bag ($64.90)

L.A.M.B. ‘Signature’ Crossbody Bag ($86.90)

EXOTIC LEATHER & PRINTS

EXOTIC

For those of you who want to wear animal prints but don’t know how to incorporate them, handbags are the perfect way.  Add a little drama without abandoning your comfort zone with one of the fabulous bags above!  I chose metallics in order to incorporate another trend; I think the two are stunning when combined.  Well, as long as you stick with refined bags and don’t pick ones with tons of fringe, piles of sequined, and giant monograms or logos!  Simple and refined or you’ll look like you charge by the hour…  All the styles above are from Handbag Heaven!

Brooklyn Bubble Satchel ($53.95)

Vintage Zebra Metallic Satchel ($53.95)

Leopard Patent Clutch ($23.95)

Zebra Print Brookstone Tote ($44.95)

Tiger Print Shoulder Bag ($47.95)

Zebra Sequined Hobo ($47.95)

Spring 2010 Handbag Trends (Pt. 1)

March 8th, 2010 by Laney

It seems like just about everything goes for Spring/Summer handbags and purses!  The good news is that you probably don’t need to go out and buy a new bag.  The bad news?  They’re all very, very tempting!  But I’m here to help – below are some of my budget friendly favorites (and a few splurges) so you don’t have to put an empty wallet in that new bag!

Bohemian

Boho

I’ve got to put it out there – I despise the Boho trend.  It was hard for me to find six palatable bags, although I don’t mind the two on the far right.  It seems like Boho is just a collection of all things ugly – whether they’re patterns, textures, or color.  However, I know some people dig it – so if that’s you, sorry!  Below are listings for the bags above, left to right and top to bottom.

Jessica Simpson – Jimmy Boho Chic Tote #1 ($91)

Lucky Brand ‘Boho’ Patch Shopper ($92)

Jessica Simpson – Jimmy Boho Chic Tote #2 ($91)

Carlos by Carlos Santana Handbag, Boho Chic Slouchy Hobo ($108)

Tree of Life Bag ($25)

Boho Ladies Fabric Bag ($26.99)

Hardware

Hardware

I’m thrilled to see that the studded/mirrored/otherwise embellished style is still alive and kicking.  These rock-chic totes are amazing with jeans and a blazer, but pair equally well with a girly Spring dress.  I have the Heather Tote (top left corner) and it’s super roomy – I actually use it as an overnight bag.  I adore it and am quite pleased with the purchase.  Bags with hardware like this tend to be more expensive, but all of the options above are from Handbag Heaven.  Use the Handbag Heaven icon at the bottom of this post to navigate to the site and you’ll receive an extra 15% off your purchase!

Heather Patent Stud Tote $69.96

SoCal Glam Tote $56.95

Heidi Convertible Grommet Bag $53.95

Bryce Studded Rock Bag $53.95

Ramsay Rock Tote $77.95

Juliette Patent Glam Tote $76.95

Textured

Textured

Texturized handbags are another one of my favorites.  Texture is a great thing to play with throughout your outfit, and an easy way to add interest.  While I usually stick to basic black with my handbags, I found some bags with fabulous color that I just couldn’t resist!  The Riley Ruffle Handbag (top right corner) is my latest obsession – it’s definitely on my MUST HAVE list.  This set is also all from Handbag Heaven, so once again, use the link at the bottom to get a discount!

Berkely Ruffle Tote $53.95

Carrington Flower Satchel $49.95

Jessa Patent Satchel $84.95

Riley Ruffle Handbag $79.95

Ellie Mae Patchwork Shopper $44.95

Adrianna Wave Satchel $59.95

Stay tuned for Part 2, where I’ll be discussing several more top Spring 2010 handbag trends!

Today, I present to you the results of my Dressbarn Top Secret Fashion Mission.  I was sent the top above, and given the challenge of creating three outfits around it.  I generally stick to shades of black and silver, which means that I didn’t have much to pair with a top featuring shades of brown and gold.  So, I’ve turned to the internet for help!  Below are three sets of items I’d love to pair with the top above…  Who knows; I may just go shopping soon!
