Carrie Underwood Skin Secrets!

Posted on: March 05, 2010 @ 12:00 pm     No Comments »

Carrie Underwood is one of my favorite celebrities when it comes to beauty inspiration.  Her hair and makeup are always flawless, and her outfit choices are impeccable.  And of course, her skin always looks amazing!  Of course, some of it has to do with her excellent team of makeup artists.  The rest?  Well that’s thanks to her skincare!

Recently, Underwood was seen purchasing Therapy System’s Emergency Treatment Cream.  She told the sales staff, “I love this cream for when I travel.”

A pharmaceutically complex product that is a medicine cabinet must-have, Emergency Treatment Cream contains active hydrocortisone to reduce redness and inflammation associated with skin distress due to invasive treatments such as chemical peeling. It is the essential tool for acne spot treatment as it eliminates redness and irritation, eradicates bacteria with no drying or peeling side effects like most blemish cures.

Degree Nature Effects Sneak Peek

Posted on: February 25, 2010 @ 7:00 pm     2 Comments »

I’m eagerly waiting for my sensory experience package from Degree this week.  I can’t wait to see what’s inside – and of course, tell you gals about it!

I’m also really excited to see the new line of deodorant from Degree – their Nature Effects line.  I haven’t been provided any “official” information about it, but I did find the photo above…  As you can see in it, the three new deodorants will feature honeysuckle & tea tree oil, olive leaf & pink pepper, and orange flower & cranberry.  They sound good enough to eat – although I’m sure that’s not recommended.

When I have more information, I’ll be sharing it here – so keep an eye out!

Degree Natureffects “Outdoorphins” Campaign

Posted on: February 24, 2010 @ 3:00 pm     No Comments »

About a week ago, I got an email from Degree asking me if I’d like to participate in a new campaign they’re holding, which celebrates Spring and the launch of their new deodorants.  Honestly, I sort of forgot about it – I had a ton going on this week and have been too busy to keep track of everything!  So yes, it was out of my mind.

Then, this morning, there was a knock on my door.  Normally I wouldn’t be pleased for someone to wake me up, but this time it was actually a blessing.  My phone had shut off (taking my alarm with it) and the knock occurred literally TWO minutes before I need to get up!

Anyway, that’s not the fun part.  The knock came from a UPS man dropping off a package for me!  Now that’s a welcome way to start the morning.  I love any kind of mail, but obviously, packages are the best.

And in the package?  Orange Olive Oil Cake!  Seriously, it just keeps getting better, right?

Well it turns out that Degree’s campaign is actually really neat.  They’re sending me five packages over the next five weeks, and each will correspond with one of the five senses.  Today’s, obviously, was taste (although the cake smelled great too!).

So why Orange Olive Oil Cake?  Well it turns out that “the ingredients in the cake are inspired by two of the new fragrances from Degree Women Natureffects Collection – olive leaf & pink pepper and orange flower & cranberry.”  Um, yes, we’re talking about deodorant.  Deodorant which may or may not be as delicious as the cake.

Did you know?

~86% of women surveyed said just by taking their lunch outside they improve their productivity.

~Nearly one in four women say the outdoors makes them feel more energized.

(The Degree Women Survey was conducted via telephone by KRC Research in October 2009 with a random sample of 500 women ages 18 and older).

Stay tuned for more updates about Degree Natureffects – and the mystery boxes!

Votre Vu Skincare, Celebrities & Sundance

Posted on: February 04, 2010 @ 8:00 am     13 Comments »

So what does Votre Vu Skincare and the Sundance Film Festival have in common?  A whole lot of celebrities, that’s what!  The fabulous company that represents Votre Vu sent me some great info about what products were used by celebs at Sundance, and now I’m sharing them with you!  I love getting the inside scoop on what the rich and famous use, so I hope you enjoy this as much as I did!

Makeup artist Olaf Derlig used À VOTRE SANTÉ Elixir Essentiel on Melissa
Leo:

“This product works to improve your skin texture and appearance! A
multi-action energizer infusion! In my business, a product that can be used
to get immediate results is very important. I noticed that it would leave
your skin with a smooth surface and a youthful glow. Using this product on
Melissa Leo was amazing and she loved it!!”

Makeup artist Jordan Long used  HABITUDE Men’s Daily Face Crème with SPF 15
on actors James Franco and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, saying that -

“This provided nice moisture to their skin in the dry climate without being
overly greasy and the SPF protected them from the elements during their long
days outside.”

Makeup artist Olaf Derlig, of his work on Marisa Tomei:

“I had an amazing result using VOTRE VU today on Marisa Tomei. Getting Marisa
ready right after she arrived from the airport going straight to her
premiere it was very important to give her a nice fresh, glowy look and
perfect skin appearance.

“Using “Wrinkle Eraser” all over her face was magic, it worked wonders!!”

LUXE LIPS” gave back her lips just what they needed….”moisturized and
shiny”

A “must have product” you need when you on the go to look perfect!!!”

Makeup Artist Jessica Liparoto on working with Adrien Brody:

“I had gifted Adrien Brody with the fabulous
Votre Vu products.  Adrien Brody’s skin type would reflect the ‘Attentive’
line.  He’s very particular about what he puts on his face and tends to
stick to what he knows. I was very impressed with Tragic Magic [Rescue
Creme]
. It completely balanced him out! I also used [Champagne Kisses]
Enhancing Lip Balm
on him.”

Makeup artist Jordan Long used Votre Vu Habitude Men’s Daily Face Crème SPF
15
on Joseph Gordon Levitt (Hesher) at Sundance this weekend- she said it
“hydrated without looking greasy.” She also “applied the [Tout Le Monde]
antioxidant eye gelee since he had slight puffiness and fatigue and it
responded very well.”

Makeup artist Jordan Long worked on up-and-comer Jennifer Lawrence (Winter’s
Bone) using Votre Vu skincare products for Sundance on Friday:

“I used the [Tragic Magic] Rescue Creme to calm her skin as she had slight
redness. I also used the [Champagne Kisses] Enhancing Lip Balm which
provided a nice nourishing base before I applied lipstick.”

Fashion for Haiti: Companies Giving Back

Posted on: February 01, 2010 @ 8:00 am     No Comments »

When I first posted about companies that were reaching out to help Haiti, mostly it was disaster relief organizations.  Now that the fashion and beauty industry has time to react and I’m pleased to see that many of my favorites are stepping up.  Check out some of the ways you can shop AND help!

“Shop for a cause to help provide relief to Haiti. We’re extending our donation of 10% of every Nubian Heritage sale to the American Red Cross for Haiti Relief through the end of February, to continue to help those who desperately need it.

To sweeten the pot, we’re offering sales on many of our most popular items, including:

- Aromatic Room Diffusers: $15 (regularly $25)
- Body Scrubs $12 (regularly $22)
- Gift Set of 13 oz. Lotion and Body Wash $16 (regularly $24)
- NH Man products including: Body Wash ($7), Three Butters Moisturizing Lotion ($7), Shave Oil ($6) and Essential Oil ($8)
- Shea Butter & Soy Massage Candles: $9 (regularly $22)
- Lip Balms ($3)”

I previously reviewed Nubian Heritage products and recommend them highly.  The quality, scent, and results are all right on point.

“In an effort to lend support to the victims of the Haiti earthquake, Alex and Ani, designer of couture and contemporary jewelry, has created the “Cornelian Bracelet” featuring its patented, expandable wire bangle™ with 100% of proceeds donated to Doctors without Borders.

The Alex and Ani Signature Expandable bracelet is an innovative wire bangle bracelet that adjusts and expands for a customized fit on any wrist.  This exclusive piece features Russian or yellow gold finish plated over a brass etched wire and is adorned with a Cornelian stone. Wear Cornelian to increase energy, self motivate and take action. This stone is also a symbol of protection and peace.”

Check it out here.

Style

“In its first two days alone, the oh-so-inviting Craft Hope for Haiti Etsy shop made over $7000 for Doctors Without Borders – and it’s no wonder. All of its one-of-a-kind items have been lovingly handcrafted and donated by talented and big-hearted artists and crafters who want to help the people of Haiti.

You would swoon over the beautiful jewelry, cushy knits and irresistible artwork at any time, but the fact that 100% of proceeds go directly to charity now gives you a reason to give in to your cravings. Donations keep pouring in so bookmark the site and check back often.

This is a great time to stock up on gifts but if you like something, make sure to buy it immediately – each item is unique, and once it’s gone, it’s gone for good. (Like the adorable Tom Selleck pillow that even those behind the scenes had their eye on.)

Founded by Texas mother of three Jade Sims, Craft Hope is a full-time labor of love “spreading seeds of hope one stitch at a time.” Check out the projects Craft Hope is working on, and learn how you can get involved. Even if you don’t know how to make something, you can still make something happen.”

(The information about Craft Hope was taken from an article on Style, Substance, Soul.)

“For every online purchase at www.talika.com between February 1, 2010 and April 30, 2010, $1.00 will be donated to Doctors Without Borders to aid in Haiti’s Disaster Relief.”

Talika makes a wide selection of beauty products, including the eyebrow lipocils and bust cream I’ve been reviewing.  I highly recommend the brand.

“P&G’s product, cash, and employee and retiree contributions to Haiti now total over $1.8 million.

P&G product donations total more than $1 million and include bar soaps, batteries, bleach, diapers, dish detergents, feminine hygiene products, laundry detergents, paper towels, shampoos, toilet tissue, tooth brushes, toothpaste, and wipes.

Additionally, P&G will distribute 6 million packets of PUR, a technology that purifies contaminated water. This quantity is enough to treat 60 million liters of water…a 3 month supply for 340,000 people.”

As far as I know, P&G is not offering specific items that will benefit Haiti in their sales.  However, with all the donations the company is making, you can feel good about buying their products!

Body Toning & Trimming Products

Posted on: January 20, 2010 @ 8:00 am     3 Comments »

I’m sure that many of you gals have resolved to become fitter and healthier in 2010.  Exercising and eating right is obviously the way to go, but incorporating products that target body problems into your routine will provide a great boost.

There are four products I’ve received for review that I’ll be testing out in the coming days, weeks, and months (depending on the products recommendations).  Of course, I’ll share my results with you – or lack thereof, though I only accepted specific products that I have positive knowledge about.

I previously shared that I was reviewing Reebok EasyTone Sneakers .  When I originally posted about them, I had just begun to wear them and hadn’t seen any results.  After wearing them as my main shoes, even without walking a significant amount, I have definitely noticed a difference.

To be honest, my thighs are too large to see if there’s any toning going on.  However, my butt has definitely benefited from the EasyTones.  While it’s not smaller (they’re not weight loss shoes, so that’s not a surprise!), the shape has completely changed.  Rather than being sort of a shapeless mass hanging off the back of me, my ass is now rounded and lifted.  So I’m completely and totally in love with the EasyTones and intend to keep wearing them, forever.

Another product I’ve received and am excited to review is Mama Mio Bootcamp for Tummies ($99).  I was thrilled with this product right off the bat when I saw that it came with a detail explanation of how and why the products work, AND a simple exercise routine to use in conjunction with them.  The product claims are practical, rather than advertising it as a miracle serum that will immediately make your fat disappear (although I wish it would).

“A radical new way to tackle tummy bulge. If you commit for 30 days, you will see results; your tummy will be tighter, flatter, smoother and more defined. Your posture will be improved, your back stronger, your skin softer – more toned, firmer and touchable. Bootcamp is a 4 minute a day skincare and exercise system in handy take-home kit. Lift, tighten and reshape your skin and lift, tighten and reshape the muscles beneath for double whammy results in only 4 minutes a day.”

My only issue with this product – and I could be wrong – is that it’s more for ladies who have only a bit of a belly, perhaps after pregnancy or after already having lost a lot of weight.  I’m not sure what sort of results it will yield for me, as I have lots of losing to do.  I’ve been doing the exercises without using the product to begin with, as I’d like to use the “Tummy Toner” and “Get Waisted” components when I have a smaller area to work with!

Talika’s Bust Serum ($49) is another product on my body improvement roster.  While I’m young thus have yet to enter into a major battle with gravity, I wear a 40D.  Because of the sheer weight of my breasts, I want to make sure that I keep them firm and prevent any unattractive stretch lines.  Also, every time I see the bottle I think of Grease – “I must, I must, I must improve my bust…”

Talika boasts that the serum will add up to 1 cup size in 6 weeks (although I secretly hope it doesn’t), as well as an 18% lift and a 70% increase in firmness.  You can read all about the manner in which the serum goes about doing that here.

I used the Bust Serum once to check the texture, smell, and feel in order to ensure that it would be a product I would actually enjoy reviewing.  It passed my test on all of those levels, so I’ll be adding it to my routine when I begin to use the rest of the Mama Mio products – I figure I should do all my “lotioning” at the same time…  As long as I keep them straight and don’t shrink my bust while increasing my waist.  Wouldn’t that be a nightmare!

Finally, this week I received a product not quite on the market:  Shapewear from ShaToBu.  ShaToBu is an innovative new type of shapewear, created by a chiropractor, that features resistance bands to help tone muscles and burn calories.

As I mentioned, the product isn’t yet available, but you can sign up on their web page to stay updated on it’s release AND to receive a free gift when you order.

I’m not going to get into the details, as that will be a separate post once I’ve had the chance to really experience the product.  Three other lovely ladies are trying it out with me, including the lovely Jen from My Beauty Bunny.  I’m really excited to see how the ShaToBu will work with the Reebok Easytones – my hope is for maximum shaping and toning!

Of course, none of these products are going to make massive improvements without other lifestyle changes and work on my part.  I’m moving back to Vermont in early February, and going to be doing yoga and water aerobics, with the intention of building up towards more strenuous activities like kickboxing and spinning.  I’m too lazy and unmotivated to just “go to the gym” as all of that big equipment just looks tedious and unpleasant!

What are you ladies doing to shape up in 2010?  Trying any products to kick start or aid your routine?  I’d love to know!

New from Philosophy, Just in Time for Valentine’s Day!

Posted on: January 18, 2010 @ 6:00 am     1 Comment »

Valentine’s Day is coming up, which means there’s tempting candy at every turn.  In fact, Easter Candy has started to hit the shelves as well, and suddenly I’m facing all my high-cal favorites every time I leave the house.  As tempted as I am to buy a truckload of Reese’s hearts and hole up in my apartment until all of my buttons pop, there is an alternative.  Take a shower!  No, not a cold one…  A warm, relaxing shower with one of your favorite candy scents.

Philosophy has two new mouth-watering scents available:  Butterscotch Bliss and Cherry on Top.  The latter isn’t strictly a candy scent, but it’s a great replacement for all those big red lollipops!

Another great holiday idea is the Flirty Girl Set ($35).  It’s a Sephora Exclusive, which means you’ll earn more points for your Beauty Bank with this one!

“Unleash your inner flirty girl!  Philosophy’s flirty girl scent is sweet like candy, yet soft, lighthearted and fun; created to give flirty girls of all ages a playful pick-me-up.  Enjoy a rich, foaming lather with flirty girl shampoo, shower gel & bubble bath, formulated to gently cleanse and condition skin and hair.  Moisturize skin with flirty girl body lotion, designed to leave you feeling fun, flirty and playful throughout the day.  The formula contains natural olive and macadamia nut oils to help soften skin and aid in moisture retention, while Shea butter helps nourish dry skin leaving it feeling silky smooth.”

If you’re more of a glossy girl, the Candy Hearts ($20) lip gloss duo is the way to go.

“A sweet kiss says it all.  Philosophy’s candy hearts contains two tubes of pink bubbly and angel food cake flavored lip shines for the sweetest kisses imaginable.  These high-gloss, mouthwatering flavored lip shines soothe and moisturize lips while providing a sheer shine.  They are the ultimate treat for lips and make the perfect gift for your special Valentine.”

Cinnamon Hot Dots was unveiled around Valentine’s Day last year, and it’s still a regular in my shower.  The sweet cinnamon lather is sure to cure what ails ya – as long as it’s a craving for something sweet!

Beauty.com & Marchesa Designs

Posted on: January 15, 2010 @ 6:00 am     3 Comments »

Beauty.com’s been cranking out the amazing sample kits lately!  Cosmetic bags are a great thing to have on hand; I use them to store hair accessories and jewelry (in addition to makeup, of course!) when traveling.  I also love to use them as gift containers for the lovely ladies in my life.  You can never have to many!

This time around, Beauty.com paired with Marchesa Designs to make their sample kit extra fabulous – and it’s not a bag, but a box!  I am completely in love with this box and to be honest, I really didn’t look at the beauty samples when I first read about the promotion.  I am *dying* to get my hands on that box.  In fact, if any of you snag the sample set but don’t want the box, let me know and I’ll swap ya some rockin’ beauty loot.  Just leave me a comment or shoot me an email.

So what’s in the beautiful box?  Well when I actually checked out the contents, I was doubly impressed – these are even better samples than usual!

1. Perricone MD No Foundation Foundation SPF 30
2. Origins Ginger Souffle Whipped Body Cream
3. Laura Geller Eye Rimz Baked Wet/Dry Eye Accents, Hocus Pocus
4. Frederic Fekkai Coiff Sheer Hold Hairspray
5. Foot Petals Strappy Strips, Black
6. bareMinerals Finishers Mineral Veil, Feather Light
7. GO SMILE am toothpaste, prevent-protect-whiten
8. Kinerase Core Collection Extreme Lift Face
9. Shadow Shields, 1 Pair
10. tarte 4 Day Stay Lash Stain, Black
11. MD Skincare Botanical Bar with Tea Tree and Aloe
12. Urban Decay Lipstick, Gash
13. StriVectin-SD Wrinkle and Stretch Mark Cream
14. L’OCCITANE Shea Butter Body Moisturizer, 100% Pure Organic Shea Butter
15. ARCONA Wine Hydrating Mask, Replenish AM/PM
16. Jurlique Rosewater Balancing Mist

All you have to do is spend $150, which should be a cinch!  Now’s a great time to stock up on spring skincare products, new seasonal hues, replace your mascara, or just try something new!
