Lingerie.com Review & Winner’s Choice Giveaway (ARV $65)

Recently, I was given the fun opportunity to do a review with Lingerie.com. It’s a fabulous site that has a wide range of lingerie, costumes, sexy panties, corsets, stockings, and even plus size lingerie.  The products on the site range from classy to…  well, yes, trashy – but in the way that can be perfectly appropriate for consenting adult couples!  So whether you’re wearing these pieces under your clothes for a bit of secret, sexy confidence, or playing “stranger” (or any other role) – Lingerie.com is where you’ll want to shop.

Personally, I like more classic, tasteful pieces – ones that can even double as a nightgown on very hot nights.  I was immediately drawn to the Maxime Babydoll (with matching G-String), which retails for a super affordable $29.99!  It’s a really cute piece that I was delighted to receive in the mail.  In person, the Maxime Babydoll is well made and adorable.  It fits true to size and is both flattering and sexy.  And even though it’s very lacy, it’s definitely comfortable to wear – so if you’re not 100% comfortable sleeping nude, this is a nice alternative when you have company!

The second item I selected to review didn’t actually have anything to do with the bedroom, for me.  I’m just in love with these shoes!  The Jane-G Glitter 4 Inch Heels are perfect for sexy get-ups and role playing, but for me, I’m happy to just wear them out for the night.  They fulfill the tiny drag queen inside of me that’s clamoring to get out.  I usually wear shoes between sizes 9 and 10, but selected a 10 for this pair.  They’re a little bit snug, but if you don’t plan on spending much time, er, on your feet – it really won’t be a concern, right?  I have a feeling they’re going to stretch out well and be fine for spending more time on my feet.  Then again, with 4 inch heels, it might be in my best idea to stay seated!  The heels also retail for an affordable $29.99.

Ready to check out Lingerie.com‘s selection for yourself?  Well you’re in luck, because one of you lucky gals will be checking out for free!

Simple Necessit-Ease: Period Undies

May 4th, 2010 by Laney

Born in Argentina of Korean decent but raised in New York, Grace SooHoo is from a family of experienced clothing manufacturers. She briefly worked in media production but had always harbored ideas of eventually working in the garment industry. It was at a gathering with girlfriends in the early 1990s when the subject of problems caused by menstruation sparked an idea for Grace. She eventually produced a prototype that ultimately proved inadequate. She realized that aside from its primary function, the product had to be comfortable and stylish as well.

Period Undies were subjected to rigorous and meticulous testing in terms of withstanding multiple machine washings and stretching along with its ability to serve as an effective layer of protection for women during the heaviest days of their cycle.

Okay so this?  This is a genius idea.  There’s something so incredibly frustrating about ruining adorable, often expensive, undergarments because of a little leak during an unpleasant week.  I’m sure every girl has panties that are saved specifically for “that time of the month” but that doesn’t mean we’re glad to see them get ruined, and it definitely doesn’t mean they stop leaks!  So panties that are actually made specifically to wear during your period – I’m all over that.

I’m on the three month cycle birth control (which I LOVE and HIGHLY recommend, by the way), but as luck would have it, I got my period waaaaay early this month.  Perfect time to test these panties though, right?  I won’t get into all the details, but basically, I generally suffer from major leakage.  These panties do a great job at stopping that…  I might even be confident to wear a light summer dress with these babies on.  Might be.

My only complaint is that they’re a bit tight.  The site says that they should fit snugly in order to do their job, but I felt like they ran a bit too small – so you may want to order up, especially if you carry more of your weight in the hips/butt region.  Since that’s my only complaint, and it’s a relative non-issue, I recommend stocking up on seven pairs…  Because really, who wants to do laundry while cramping?  Yeah, I didn’t think so.

Simple Necessit-Ease Period Undies are available in several styles and colors.  They retail for $22 per 2-pair pack and are worth every freakin’ penny.  Use whatever’s left to stock the fridge with Ben & Jerry’s and hit the Redbox for chick flicks.  Aww, yeah.

Kalyx DD Diva: Best Bra for Large Busts!

April 15th, 2010 by Laney

Are you a Diva?  Daring, determined, and driven.  Dazzling, desirable, delightful and divine.  The sports bra was made especially for you:  extra wide cushioned straps, innovative back design to smooth your silhouette, strategically placed seaming and hidden mesh panels for comfort and support, our unique KALYX ventilation system to maximize air flow which helps to reduce skin irritation and chafing.  The original KALYX DD Bra – designed to help women run faster, play harder and feel better.

One bra didn’t arrive before I published my initial Kalyx review, but to my pleasant surprise, it showed up at the end of last week!  This bra is the DD Diva ($48), which is designed specifically for women who wear DD cup sizes.

I’ve never had a sports bra that involves a hook-and-eye closure, or any other features that are designed specifically for larger bust sizes.  The DD Diva also includes interior encapsulated cups, a ventilated front panel (for maximum air flow), extra wide padded straps (to alleviate neck & should stress), and a unique “butterfly” back design (which helps create a smoother silhouette).

As with my other Kalyx bras, I’m in love!  This one is my new fave, however, as it’s designed specifically for girls with larger breasts.  I’m not a jogger but I walk frequently and do other aerobic activities, and this bra is perfect.  The band isn’t too tight or too loose (same with the cups), it’s not hot, the adjustable back closure means that the band will continue to fit as I lose weight, there’s no bounce when I’m working out…  For me, there are nothing but pros to this bra!  Oh and the padded shoulder straps are amazing – thin straps often cut into my shoulders while trying to hold my boobs up!

Want your own Kalyx sports bra?  You’re in luck, as I’m hosting a giveaway – winner gets to select the bra they win!  You can also use code “FashionableGal20″ to get 20% off any Kalyx purchase.  Also, if you want to learn how Kalyx developed the DD Diva, you can read the whole story.

Go Kalyx: Elite, Enlightened, Extreme Sports Bras (GIVEAWAY)

“At KALYX, we are 100% committed to protecting the precious assets of female athletes.  Created for women, by women, every KALYX product is designed to meet our team’s specifications.  No matter what type of activity you enjoy, know that our products are for women who love to get into the game!”

Whether they’re big or small, natural or “augmented,” a pain or a pleasure…  every woman has breasts.  Thus, everyone woman needs bras.  I find that fact to be endlessly daunting, as I can almost never find bras that fit correctly, are comfortable, and flatter me – certainly not all three qualities in one bra.  And while regular bras are a pain, I have even more trouble with sports bras.  They’re too tight, they’re too hot, they’re unflattering, they’re unstylish…  I’m a gal with many complaints.

When Kalyx emailed me and asked if I wanted to do a review (and giveaway!) I was really excited.  As I’ve mentioned, quite often by now, I’ve been exercising a lot over the past two or so months.  Wearing my regular bras is absolutely out of the question, as padding and under wire really doesn’t make for a comfortable workout experience.  I have a few sports bras, but none of them quite do the trick.

Kalyx sent me three bras:  the Kickstart, the Centered, and the Extremist (pictured above).  They’re also sending me the DD Diva, but I haven’t received it yet – so I’ll be reviewing it separately.

“Together with a team of experts, including athletes, architects, designers, engineers, reconstructive surgeons and textile developers, KALYX has created the world’s most advanced line of activity-specific encapsulated sports bras. Offering revolutionary design, cutting-edge construction, and top-notch composition, KALYX has created an overall superior sports bra collection. KALYX sports bras are also environmentally friendly, made from our Eco-Loving K-FORCE fabric.  Ultra-lightweight and moisture-wicking with a soft and luxurious hand, K-FORCE is made from recycled polyester fibers.”

Tights Please: Review & Giveway (TEN WINNERS!)

March 15th, 2010 by Laney

Today’s confession:  I’m addicted to tights.  Since I sold a bunch of clothes to pay some bills last year, I don’t have many skirts or dresses to wear them with…  Which has made me very sad.  I recently purchased a gorgeous skirt (on clearance!) from Torrid and have enjoyed getting to show some leg tight when going out recently.

When a lovely lady from Tightsplease emailed me about doing a review (and giveaway!) of the merchandise offered by her company, I jumped at the offer!  Unfortunately, the tights I received were too small, so I haven’t been able to wear them – yet!  Fingers crossed that I’ll be able to fit into them in a few months – if not weeks.

In any case, we can still chat about the range and quality of tights offered by Tightsplease – and of course, you’ll get your chance to win some of your own!

The first style I received was the Skinkiss Caffeine Tights.  Yes, you read that right – caffeine tights!

These caffeine tights have microcapsules of caffeine which are released into thighs, bottom and legs. This increases the metabolic rate and the burning of fat. They have been shown to reduce fat and the circumference of thighs up to 2cm. They can even help with the dreaded cellulite “orange peel” effect!

Each pair can be washed 5 times before the caffeine effect wears off. They take 2-4 weeks to see the full effect. Three weeks before you travel, start wearing Caffeine tights. They come as a three pair pack and need to be worn in rotation over the three weeks to give you smoother, slimmer thighs. Thighs become slimmer by an average 2cm and the weight stays off! Ladies often notice an improvement in the look and feel of cellulite in the first couple of days.

Since mine are a tad too small, I haven’t been able to wear them yet, as mentioned.  However, the reviews on the site are ALL positive and the results described are amazing!  *Note:  If you check out the reviews, the product has a rating of 3.6 stars.  If you look at the actual reviews, this is because several reviewers who left positive comments forgot to give a star rating!*

These tights are available in Nude and Black, sizes Small to Extra Large.

The next pair I checked out was a pair of the Denier Opaque Tights in Purple.  There are a whopping 21 colors available, including a lime green that I’m incredibly envious of.

One of the hottest looks seen on the catwalks this year, bold bright legs are definitely a must. Luxuriously soft and comfortable – perfect for everyday wear, these Jonathan Aston bestsellers are now available in a beautiful array of sweetshop colours.

I adore colored tights; they were a staple of my wardrobe in high school.  I had to wear a plain, boring uniform for all four years, and the only way to add a real pop to the look was tights!  I had every color and pattern you can think of, and seeing these Denier tights brought me back to that fun.

The third pair I received was a style that’s relatively new to Tights Please – the Addy style by Red or Dead.

The racer back-seam is the hottest essential statement piece of the season. Red or Dead have added their own unique twist to the trend resulting in a fabulous new look versatile piece. The wardrobe staple being the sheer black tights have been transformed with a funky edge!

The stunning Addy Tights incorporate a classic look with a jazzed up edge. This piece looks fabulous and eye-catching. Easy to wear and affordable, they can transform any outfit giving your legs the statement they deserve. They also have the added bonus of vertical lines which have the effect of making your legs look like they go on forever!

I’m a big fan of anything that makes my legs look longer or slimmer, which vertical lines really do!  I’m often tempted to wear my exercise pants out because of their slimming effect – but that wouldn’t be so chic.  If you’re wearing tights, you’re showing off your legs, so lengthening them is a fabulous bonus these tights provide.

The last pair of tights I received was the Una Footless style, also from Red or Dead.

The glamorous Una Tights, designed by Red or Dead exclusively for Tightsplease are an exact sentiment of the brands vibe. The fully opaque tights are almost leggings and include a beautiful sheer stripe detail that runs throughout the leg.

This strong statement piece proves a prime example of true individuality of the brand whilst demonstrating its high fashion influence. Easy to wear and on trend, the Una tights are an essential piece to get you noticed.

I love footless tights paired with sweet Spring dresses and fabulous pumps or adorable sandals.  The Una style is available in four colors, including the blue above – perfect for the season!

If you’re in the UK, you’re in luck – Tightsplease offers free shipping in the UK!

Now for the giveaway:  10 Winners will receive their very own Addy Red or Dead tights, courtesy of Tightsplease!  Entering is super easy – all you have to do is visit this link, which is the official giveaway page, and enter your email address – then you’re done!  The giveaway will run until April 15, so good luck!

Do you ever wonder how stars get away with such low cut, backless, or side slit gowns?  Regardless of their age or the cut of their outfit, these ladies always have everything right where it’s supposed to be.  They look perky and fabulous, and of course, you never see a stray strap.

They’re not just using flesh covered stick ons over their “naughty bits,” as you (and I) might have previously though!  Instead, they’ve got all kinds of strategic lingerie and amazing bras that keep them perky and perfect all night long.  Below are some of the best bras for keeping it all together, regardless of the occasion.

Jennifer Lopez in a Giorgio Armani Privé gown.

Bra Suggestion: The Natural Shaper Bra ($47.99)

Sarah Jessica Parker in Chanel.  I’ve got to say, I’m not crazy about the dress at all.

Giveaway: Teez-Her Skinny Tank! *CLOSED*

Teez-Her:  It’s Worth Squeezing Into

Teez-her body slimming SKINNY TANKS are the best friend to your waistline and your bottomline!  They come in array of NEW STYLES which look amazing on their own, but are truly the perfect layering piece. They add a touch of color and style under a suit, wrap dress, sweater, or tee, all while smoothing and slimming the waistline with a super stretch nylon/spandex core panel.  Look and feel your best for only around $28 each!  (Almost HALF THE PRICE of other shapewear brands!)

The newest edition to the Teez-her line is The Skinny Shaper, which features a nylon/spandex panel, which extends all the way to the bottom hem, and features a hidden rubber gripper to prevent bunching and rolling (available in sizes Small – Extra Large).  This sounds like a fabulous new development, as the biggest problem I’ve had with shapewear in the past is that it rolls up and suddenly goes from my waist to right under my boobs.

Teez-her also features a Skinny Shirt (which looks like a regular, cute blouse) and a selection of Skinny Pants (4 styles available).  I’ve seen and tried a fair amount of shapewear, but I actually haven’t seen items like either of those previously.  I haven’t actually tried either, but they look like really neat shaping options, and I’ve heard good things about Teez-her.

Shapewear can be tricky to order online, but Teez-her is sold in Macy’s, Dillard’s, and various other boutiques nationwide.  You can find a retailer near you by using their Store Locator.

Each month, Teez-her gives away a Skinny Tank to one lucky winner!  You can enter their giveaway here.  Want another chance to win?  You’re in luck!  One lucky reader will win their own Skinny Tank right here on The Fashionable Gal!

Contest Info: This giveaway will run from March 8th to March 15th, 2010, 11:50 PM EST.  You must complete the Mandatory Entry in order for any additional entries to count.  Additional entries must be submitted in separate comments or they will not be counted.

Affinitas Intimates: Best Bras for Spring 2010

March 2nd, 2010 by Laney

I’ve been in some serious need of new bras.  Shamefully, I admit that I only have one.  Yes, one bra.  Which I’ve had for about four years.  It’s not in the greatest condition.

Affinitas Intimates sent me a preview of their Spring line, and I immediately fell in love with the chic, sexy styles it featured.  I wear a large bra size (a D cup), and often I find that bras in my size range are large, beige, and incredibly unattractive.  Currently, Affinitas reaches 38DD (the equivalent of about a 40D), and I hope they continue to expand their size range – but at least some of us bigger breasted girls can rejoice!

And if you’re in the A – C range?  Check out Affinitas and I’m sure you’ll have found your new favorite lingerie retailer.  Whether you’re looking for something intensely sexy, or something that will hide under work clothes but give you that boost of confidence gorgeous lingerie always does…  There’s definitely something for you.

Affinitas sent me two bras to check out – the Rose (pictured above) and the Amanda T-Shirt bra.  When I opened the box, I startled my boyfriend with a surprised “Oh!”  I was so delighted with the beautiful detailing on the Rose (my favorite), the perfectly molded cups, and the flattering style.  Unfortunately, the band is a bit snug on my – I need a 42 and it fits more like a 38 or 40…  Nevertheless, I’m going to pick up a bra band extender and wear this little beauty to my heart’s content!

Affinitas Intimates doesn’t just sell fabulous bras.  Each bra has a matching bottom – and once again, the Rose style pictured above is my favorite!  I’m also quite partial to the “Samantha” set at left.  The colors in the Affinitas Spring collection are exactly what I’ve been craving all Winter…  I’m particularly fond of pink underthings, so they’ve hit the nail on the head with these pieces!  The straps are also gorgeous and very comfortable looking!  The matching bows on the bra and boyshorts are just too cute.

To check out (and try on!) Affinitas lingerie for yourself, use their Store Locator to find the your nearest Affinitas retailer!

Best Bras for Any Neckline (Grammy Style!)

February 7th, 2010 by Laney

When you’re watching celebrity events and award ceremonies – like the Grammy’s – do you ever wonder what the heck all the women are wearing under their dresses?  No, not the way your boyfriend might be…  I’m always wondering what kind of bras/covers/intricate breast maneuvering devices these ladies are wearing.  I mean, they were dresses with plunging fronts, missing backs, see-through sides…  So how are they’re boobs up front and perfectly shaped as if they were all wearing invisible miracle bras?

Well, I’ve got the inside scoop on some great undergarments that will help you pull of your own Red Carpet style – even if the only rug you’re posing on is the one in front of your bathtub!

The Natural 2303 Sexy Plunge Bra

“This low plunging bra allows you support for your most revealing tops and dresses. Molded, contour cups with medium padding provides shape and lift. Deep "U" front has hidden wire for added support. Unique convertible back strap enables low-back or traditional styling. Shoulder straps convert to halter straps. Straps include one clear halter strap, one elastic traditional back strap, one elastic low-back converter and two elastic shoulder straps; all straps are adjustable. An essential bra for a versatile wardrobe! Made by The Natural by Coconut Grove. Please Note: This bra cannot be worn strapless.”

Taylor Swift is wearing what is most likely my favorite dress of the year – regardless of the fact that 2010 just started.  I love everything about it, including the amazing neckline and “straps.”  Below is a bra that will help you rock a dress like Swift’s, along with many other Spring and Summer styles that are currently dying to break out of your closet (or find their way into it)!

The Natural 2225 Combination Wing Bra

“Wow! You can wear this bra several different ways — completely backless or with a clear plastic back! Molded, contour, underwire cups shape and support the breasts with light padding. Contour cups enable modesty while underwires provide support. Low plunge front enables you to wear lower cut tops and dresses. Adhesive wings adhere to your sides with included adhesive tape (for completely backless version). Adjustable, removable silicone straps can be worn as halter or strapless (for clear strap in back). This bra has two strap placements along the sides and two placements along the top of both cups. Includes 2 pairs of adhesive tape (4 adhesives total) and 2 adhesive tape savers, which allow you to use adhesives multiple times. The perfect bra for all occasions made by The Natural by Coconut Grove.”

Now what if you’re wearing a dress like Katy Perry and can’t really wear a bra at all?  Well, there’s a solution for that, too…  And it’s not going completely without and letting happen what may!

Dimrs Dimr Self-Adhesive Silicone Nipple Covers

“Dimrs Self-Adhesive Silicone Nipple Covers Dimrs are self-adhesive silicone nipple covers that are completely invisible under any type of clothing. Dimrs do not contain adhesive glue, they naturally warm to the body’s temperature and stick to the skin. Once Dimrs have been positioned horizontally across the nipple (with or without a bra) they are completely camouflaged and weightless. Wash Dimrs with water and mild soap after each use and they will be ready for the next wear. Wear your Dimrs with any piece of lingerie or on those occasions when you have to go without.”

So now you know – when in doubt, DON’T go without!

Body Toning & Trimming Products

January 20th, 2010 by Laney

I’m sure that many of you gals have resolved to become fitter and healthier in 2010.  Exercising and eating right is obviously the way to go, but incorporating products that target body problems into your routine will provide a great boost.

There are four products I’ve received for review that I’ll be testing out in the coming days, weeks, and months (depending on the products recommendations).  Of course, I’ll share my results with you – or lack thereof, though I only accepted specific products that I have positive knowledge about.

I previously shared that I was reviewing Reebok EasyTone Sneakers .  When I originally posted about them, I had just begun to wear them and hadn’t seen any results.  After wearing them as my main shoes, even without walking a significant amount, I have definitely noticed a difference.

To be honest, my thighs are too large to see if there’s any toning going on.  However, my butt has definitely benefited from the EasyTones.  While it’s not smaller (they’re not weight loss shoes, so that’s not a surprise!), the shape has completely changed.  Rather than being sort of a shapeless mass hanging off the back of me, my ass is now rounded and lifted.  So I’m completely and totally in love with the EasyTones and intend to keep wearing them, forever.

Another product I’ve received and am excited to review is Mama Mio Bootcamp for Tummies ($99).  I was thrilled with this product right off the bat when I saw that it came with a detail explanation of how and why the products work, AND a simple exercise routine to use in conjunction with them.  The product claims are practical, rather than advertising it as a miracle serum that will immediately make your fat disappear (although I wish it would).

“A radical new way to tackle tummy bulge. If you commit for 30 days, you will see results; your tummy will be tighter, flatter, smoother and more defined. Your posture will be improved, your back stronger, your skin softer – more toned, firmer and touchable. Bootcamp is a 4 minute a day skincare and exercise system in handy take-home kit. Lift, tighten and reshape your skin and lift, tighten and reshape the muscles beneath for double whammy results in only 4 minutes a day.”

My only issue with this product – and I could be wrong – is that it’s more for ladies who have only a bit of a belly, perhaps after pregnancy or after already having lost a lot of weight.  I’m not sure what sort of results it will yield for me, as I have lots of losing to do.  I’ve been doing the exercises without using the product to begin with, as I’d like to use the “Tummy Toner” and “Get Waisted” components when I have a smaller area to work with!

Talika’s Bust Serum ($49) is another product on my body improvement roster.  While I’m young thus have yet to enter into a major battle with gravity, I wear a 40D.  Because of the sheer weight of my breasts, I want to make sure that I keep them firm and prevent any unattractive stretch lines.  Also, every time I see the bottle I think of Grease – “I must, I must, I must improve my bust…”

Talika boasts that the serum will add up to 1 cup size in 6 weeks (although I secretly hope it doesn’t), as well as an 18% lift and a 70% increase in firmness.  You can read all about the manner in which the serum goes about doing that here.

I used the Bust Serum once to check the texture, smell, and feel in order to ensure that it would be a product I would actually enjoy reviewing.  It passed my test on all of those levels, so I’ll be adding it to my routine when I begin to use the rest of the Mama Mio products – I figure I should do all my “lotioning” at the same time…  As long as I keep them straight and don’t shrink my bust while increasing my waist.  Wouldn’t that be a nightmare!

Finally, this week I received a product not quite on the market:  Shapewear from ShaToBu.  ShaToBu is an innovative new type of shapewear, created by a chiropractor, that features resistance bands to help tone muscles and burn calories.

As I mentioned, the product isn’t yet available, but you can sign up on their web page to stay updated on it’s release AND to receive a free gift when you order.

I’m not going to get into the details, as that will be a separate post once I’ve had the chance to really experience the product.  Three other lovely ladies are trying it out with me, including the lovely Jen from My Beauty Bunny.  I’m really excited to see how the ShaToBu will work with the Reebok Easytones – my hope is for maximum shaping and toning!

Of course, none of these products are going to make massive improvements without other lifestyle changes and work on my part.  I’m moving back to Vermont in early February, and going to be doing yoga and water aerobics, with the intention of building up towards more strenuous activities like kickboxing and spinning.  I’m too lazy and unmotivated to just “go to the gym” as all of that big equipment just looks tedious and unpleasant!

What are you ladies doing to shape up in 2010?  Trying any products to kick start or aid your routine?  I’d love to know!
