TSA-Friendly Boutique 3floz.com Takes Off

Posted on: March 11, 2010 @ 12:00 pm     No Comments »

I think this is a phenomenal idea – it’s a pain to transfer favorite products into tiny bottles just to get them on a plain.  Plus, the cost of tiny bottles adds up…  Yes, they’re reusable, but I’d rather not have to wash mini shampoo and conditioner bottles when I get home from a long trip.  Buying minis is a great solution, but before now, it was hard to find a lot of faves in tiny sizes.

Buying travel size products is also a great way to test products before you invest in a full size.  There’s nothing worse than wasting money on a $50 skin cream that makes you break out.  Or a conditioner that leaves your hair oily.  Or a body wash that makes your skin dry.  I think you get the point – trying before buying is ideal, and 3floz gives you the opportunity to try – for a lot less!

This is also a great way to introduce your man to grooming products…  Give him a few little products to try and see if you can get him hooked!  If he won’t use them, at least you didn’t blow a big chunk of money on full size products!

There are currently 25 brands on 3floz, including Yes to Carrots, DDF, Go Smile, Jonathan, and many more.  There are individual products, but the site also offers kits that contain all the products you’ll need to travel with.

Orders of $100 or more ship for free, and the site runs other promotions as well.  Currently, you’ll receive a free gift with any DDF purchase!

Globetrotter Beauty Case from Chris Benz

Posted on: March 05, 2010 @ 3:00 pm     3 Comments »

“The ‘Globetrotter Beauty Case’ is inspired by the glamorous Golden Age of travel, when women would pack a custom-made train case filled with portable versions of the most elegant fixtures of their dressing table,” says Benz.

“We love the unique perspective that Chris Benz brings to the Beauty.com designer bag series,” says Kathleen McNeill, president of Beauty.com. “His Globetrotter Beauty Case is valuable, sensible, and easily tucks into a suitcase for the savvy beauty customer who is often on-the-go.”

I love this case!  It’s a gorgeous color and a sweet style for Spring.  Use it for your lunchbox, handbag, or a small picnic case on a romantic afternoon for two.  Or, just keep it packed with your beauty favorites and take it on all your jet setting excursions!

The Chris Benz ‘Globetrotter Beauty Case’ includes samples from the following:

·       FULL SIZE Laura Geller Powder Eye Liner Pencil

·       Skyn ICELAND The ANTIDOTE Quenching Daily Lotion

·       Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask

·       Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer

Fashion for Haiti: Companies Giving Back

Posted on: February 01, 2010 @ 8:00 am     No Comments »

When I first posted about companies that were reaching out to help Haiti, mostly it was disaster relief organizations.  Now that the fashion and beauty industry has time to react and I’m pleased to see that many of my favorites are stepping up.  Check out some of the ways you can shop AND help!

“Shop for a cause to help provide relief to Haiti. We’re extending our donation of 10% of every Nubian Heritage sale to the American Red Cross for Haiti Relief through the end of February, to continue to help those who desperately need it.

To sweeten the pot, we’re offering sales on many of our most popular items, including:

- Aromatic Room Diffusers: $15 (regularly $25)
- Body Scrubs $12 (regularly $22)
- Gift Set of 13 oz. Lotion and Body Wash $16 (regularly $24)
- NH Man products including: Body Wash ($7), Three Butters Moisturizing Lotion ($7), Shave Oil ($6) and Essential Oil ($8)
- Shea Butter & Soy Massage Candles: $9 (regularly $22)
- Lip Balms ($3)”

I previously reviewed Nubian Heritage products and recommend them highly.  The quality, scent, and results are all right on point.

“In an effort to lend support to the victims of the Haiti earthquake, Alex and Ani, designer of couture and contemporary jewelry, has created the “Cornelian Bracelet” featuring its patented, expandable wire bangle™ with 100% of proceeds donated to Doctors without Borders.

The Alex and Ani Signature Expandable bracelet is an innovative wire bangle bracelet that adjusts and expands for a customized fit on any wrist.  This exclusive piece features Russian or yellow gold finish plated over a brass etched wire and is adorned with a Cornelian stone. Wear Cornelian to increase energy, self motivate and take action. This stone is also a symbol of protection and peace.”

Check it out here.

Style

“In its first two days alone, the oh-so-inviting Craft Hope for Haiti Etsy shop made over $7000 for Doctors Without Borders – and it’s no wonder. All of its one-of-a-kind items have been lovingly handcrafted and donated by talented and big-hearted artists and crafters who want to help the people of Haiti.

You would swoon over the beautiful jewelry, cushy knits and irresistible artwork at any time, but the fact that 100% of proceeds go directly to charity now gives you a reason to give in to your cravings. Donations keep pouring in so bookmark the site and check back often.

This is a great time to stock up on gifts but if you like something, make sure to buy it immediately – each item is unique, and once it’s gone, it’s gone for good. (Like the adorable Tom Selleck pillow that even those behind the scenes had their eye on.)

Founded by Texas mother of three Jade Sims, Craft Hope is a full-time labor of love “spreading seeds of hope one stitch at a time.” Check out the projects Craft Hope is working on, and learn how you can get involved. Even if you don’t know how to make something, you can still make something happen.”

(The information about Craft Hope was taken from an article on Style, Substance, Soul.)

“For every online purchase at www.talika.com between February 1, 2010 and April 30, 2010, $1.00 will be donated to Doctors Without Borders to aid in Haiti’s Disaster Relief.”

Talika makes a wide selection of beauty products, including the eyebrow lipocils and bust cream I’ve been reviewing.  I highly recommend the brand.

“P&G’s product, cash, and employee and retiree contributions to Haiti now total over $1.8 million.

P&G product donations total more than $1 million and include bar soaps, batteries, bleach, diapers, dish detergents, feminine hygiene products, laundry detergents, paper towels, shampoos, toilet tissue, tooth brushes, toothpaste, and wipes.

Additionally, P&G will distribute 6 million packets of PUR, a technology that purifies contaminated water. This quantity is enough to treat 60 million liters of water…a 3 month supply for 340,000 people.”

As far as I know, P&G is not offering specific items that will benefit Haiti in their sales.  However, with all the donations the company is making, you can feel good about buying their products!

Beauty.com & Marchesa Designs

Posted on: January 15, 2010 @ 6:00 am     3 Comments »

Beauty.com’s been cranking out the amazing sample kits lately!  Cosmetic bags are a great thing to have on hand; I use them to store hair accessories and jewelry (in addition to makeup, of course!) when traveling.  I also love to use them as gift containers for the lovely ladies in my life.  You can never have to many!

This time around, Beauty.com paired with Marchesa Designs to make their sample kit extra fabulous – and it’s not a bag, but a box!  I am completely in love with this box and to be honest, I really didn’t look at the beauty samples when I first read about the promotion.  I am *dying* to get my hands on that box.  In fact, if any of you snag the sample set but don’t want the box, let me know and I’ll swap ya some rockin’ beauty loot.  Just leave me a comment or shoot me an email.

So what’s in the beautiful box?  Well when I actually checked out the contents, I was doubly impressed – these are even better samples than usual!

1. Perricone MD No Foundation Foundation SPF 30
2. Origins Ginger Souffle Whipped Body Cream
3. Laura Geller Eye Rimz Baked Wet/Dry Eye Accents, Hocus Pocus
4. Frederic Fekkai Coiff Sheer Hold Hairspray
5. Foot Petals Strappy Strips, Black
6. bareMinerals Finishers Mineral Veil, Feather Light
7. GO SMILE am toothpaste, prevent-protect-whiten
8. Kinerase Core Collection Extreme Lift Face
9. Shadow Shields, 1 Pair
10. tarte 4 Day Stay Lash Stain, Black
11. MD Skincare Botanical Bar with Tea Tree and Aloe
12. Urban Decay Lipstick, Gash
13. StriVectin-SD Wrinkle and Stretch Mark Cream
14. L’OCCITANE Shea Butter Body Moisturizer, 100% Pure Organic Shea Butter
15. ARCONA Wine Hydrating Mask, Replenish AM/PM
16. Jurlique Rosewater Balancing Mist

All you have to do is spend $150, which should be a cinch!  Now’s a great time to stock up on spring skincare products, new seasonal hues, replace your mascara, or just try something new!

Jan 13

I’ve wanted a KitchenAid Mixer for as long as I can remember – it reminds of all the delicious things my mom would bake when I was little.  I love cookbooks and always enjoy expanding my collection…  And of course, Benefit Cosmetics?  Seriously, this prize could only be better if someone was going to actually come to my house WITH cupcakes, and do my makeup.  And maybe rub my feet…

Enter the giveaway here; good luck!

When you’re done, check out Benefit’s new Sugarbomb – “sugar rush flush” face powder ($28).  I adore face powders/blushes with several shades to them, as I find they look more natural.  The shades in Sugarbomb are gorgeous, and I could see using the peach shades as eye shadow, too.

Find out how to get the “Sugarbomb look” in a few simple steps here.

WW Day 6: Bath & Body Works Antibacterial

Posted on: December 19, 2009 @ 7:00 am     108 Comments »

wellness

“Spread Love, Not Germs!”

Soap.  Not the most glamorous beauty accessory, but certainly an important one.  It’s the season of colds & flues, runny noses and being coughed on by strangers.  Crowded buses, filthy hand rails, packed waiting rooms.  There’s nothing fun – or fashionable – about being sick!  Concealer can only go so far in cover red noses and dark under eyes, lip balm can’t always compete with wind chapped lips, and even the most eye opening mascara won’t make it look like you got a great night’s sleep.  So what’s the solution?  Don’t get sick in the first place!

Hand washing and sanitizing is key.  Of course, this is true throughout the year as well – but in the winter time, spending hours in department stores shopping for gifts and perhaps eating more cookies than immune boosting vegetables…  Well let’s just say it’s important to kill those germs!

Of course, constant hand washing and sanitizing can lead to sore, cracked palms.  In order to avoid this equally unattractive alternative to illness, using products packed with skin nourishing ingredients is key.  Every year I stock up on products from the Anti-Bacterial line at Bath & Body Works.  I was originally attracted to the products for their amazing range of scents, but now come back for the quality.

Bath & Body Works offers several types of soap, which help target your specific hand washing needs.

deep

Deep Cleansing Soap, $4.50 or 3/$10

“Cleansing beads and germ killers get dirty hands clean and leave skin lightly scented. Triclosan kills germs, Vitamins B5 & E nourish skin, and gentle exfoliators cleanse deeply.”

Available in scents like Festive Vanilla Fig, Juniper Breeze, and Mango Mandarin.

foam

Gentle Foaming Soap, $5 or 3/$10

“Soft bursts of lightweight foam gently wash away dirt and germs, while leaving skin soft and lightly scented.  Triclosan kills germs, aloe vera soothes skin, and Pro-Vitamin B5 nourishes skin.”

Available in scents like Pink Grapefruit, Black Raspberry Vanilla, and Exotic Coconut.

moistMoisturizing Soap, $5 or 3/$10

“Even with frequent hand washing, our soothing moisturizers hydrate skin. Hands are left soft, germ-free and lightly scented.  Triclosan kills germs, Green Tea Extract soothes skin, shea butter moisturizes skin, and Vitamin E nourishes skin.”

Available in scents like Kitchen Lemon, Tropical Passionfruit, and Wild Honeysuckle.

pocket

PocketBac Hand Sanitizer, $1.50 or 5/$5

“Spread love, not germs. This pocket-sized bottle contains natural ingredients and powerful germ killers that get hands clean, wherever you go.  Vitamins B5 and E nourish skin, kills germs without water.”

Available in scents like Nectarine Mint, White Citrus, and Fresh Lemon.

Three of you lucky ladies are going to be germ-free thanks to Bath & Body Works!  Winners will receive a Bath & Body Works hand soap AND a PocketBac Hand Sanitizer.  And it gets even better – you have your choice between three of my favorite scents:  Warm Vanilla Sugar, Cherry Blossom, or Cucumber Melon (substitutions may be made if a scent becomes unavailable).

Mandatory Entry:  Tell me which type of soap you’d like to try most, and what Bath & Body Works scent is your favorite (not limited to those mentioned in this post).

Talika: Help for Sparse Brows & Lashes

Posted on: December 11, 2009 @ 5:30 am     No Comments »

talika

‘Since its creation in 1948, the TALIKA laboratories have been developing original and effective products that suit women’s needs perfectly.

All started at the opthalmologic department of the famous Paris hospital “Hôpitaux de Paris”. A young woman Doctor, named Danielle Roches, develops an anti-bacterial cream with plant extracts to help cure people suffering from dramatic face and eyes burns due to war casualties. The results of her cream are astonishing: the lashes of her patients regrow quickly and dramatically. This miracle discovery is the birth of Lipocils, universal “best seller”, that has seducted and helped millions of women thanks to its efficiency.

Today, Talika proposes original and effective solutions to eye care, hand care and nail care concerns. All products are clinically tested, independently, by a team of dermatologists at hôpitaux Paris Pitié-Salpetrière.

Alexis de Brosses, President of Talika explains:
“My vision of our company and brand is to propose products that are developed with full respect to Nature and to our customers.  I have only one aim: make the women who use the Talika products happier and more serene in life.”‘

I don’t have have an eyelash issue, but I am seriously lacking in the brow department.  As in, I can’t leave the house unless I’ve painted on some brows, otherwise I’m going to get some strange looks on campus.  Making them even and ensuring that they vaguely pass as actual eyebrows is painstaking process that adds at least 5 minutes to my makeup routine – which often doubles it!

talika2

In order to help me remedy my embarrassing brow situation, Talika sent me a sample of their Eyebrow Lipocils ($40).

“This gel (plant extract based) naturally reshapes the line of the eyebrows to make a woman’s look as expressive a possible. It stimulates their growth and makes them thicker and healthier. You will be delighted with this product’s conditioning action combined with its easy application.  A colorless and odorless gel.”

I started using the Eyebrow Lipocils a few days ago; it’s too early to see results, but I’ll post when I do!  The gel actually isn’t totally clear, but it does dry that way.  It’s a has a slight brown tint upon application, which is actually helpful because I can tell where I put it.

Since I have no results to report yet, check out Talika’s Clinical Trial results.  Impressive!  I can’t wait to have real eyebrows…
