This year has been big for me.  I’ve moved, changed schools, left a relationship, made new friends…  And started a small collection of designer items.  The first was a fabulous pair of Tory Burch sunglasses, which I wear religiously.  The most recent?  A Rebecca Minkoff tote I won at BlogHer10.  Now, don’t think I’m bragging…  There’s most definitely something in it for you!

Ebay Fashion sponsored a giveaway at BlogHer, through which I won the Rebecca Minkoff bag – and a Dooney & Bourke tote that will soon be happily heading out to live with one of you lovely ladies.  Yes, that’s right – right here, right now, you’ve got the opportunity to win a fabulous designer bag!  It’s sitting on the couch next to me right now, and as much as I love my Minkoff…  I’m still going to have trouble parting with this baby!

Dooney & Bourke Nylon Editor’s Tote

  • Double handle, removable shoulder strap, front buckle tab closure
  • Lined interior; front wall cell phone pocket; middle zip compartment with zip closure, key fob; back wall zip pocket
  • Measures 15″W x 14″H x 5″D with a 4″ handle and 13″ strap drop
  • Body/lining 100% nylon; trim 100% genuine leather
  • Violet exterior, hot pink lining

The winner will also be getting some extra swag I picked up a BlogHer, from companies like Gillette, Secret, Aquaphor, CoverGirl, Extra, and more!  Probably about $50 worth of swag, making the grand prize total value over $200!

Because this giveaway has basically no strings attached for me (in terms of responsibility to a sponsor), entering is gonna be pretty easy.  Lots and lots of ways to get entered for this fab prize.  Plus, I owe you fab fans a bit of an apology – I know I’ve been a little absent, and I’m sorry!  It’s been a busy, busy year so far.

CONTEST INFO: This giveaway is open to US & Canadian residents (sorry International babes!).  It will run until September 5, 2010, 11:59 PM EST.  There’s no Mandatory Entry, but please leave a separate comment for each entry you do complete.  Entries listed all in one comment will not be counted separately!

Great Places to Score a Discount Designer Handbag
By Dorothy Howell,
Author of “Shoulder Bags and Shootings: A Haley Randolph Mystery

You don’t have to dress less-than-glam during these hard economic times — not when shopping centers and Internet sites are flush with places to snag a genuine designer handbag at a deeply discounted price.

Stores selling discounted handbags range from small, intimate vintage and consignment shops to large department stores, and even larger outlet malls. Internet sites offer a wide range of styles, colors, and designer names.

The Premium Outlets and the Tanger Outlets far and away have the largest concentration of discounted designer merchandise. Along with handbag stores such as Coach, Judith Leiber, Kate Spade and Dooney & Bourke, you’ll find a fantastic array of designer stores. Michael Kors, Liz Clairborne, Prada, DKNY, Gucci, Calvin Klein, Burberry, along with many others, carry everything from clothing to shoes, and a sampling of their handbag lines.

The Premium Outlets have over 40 locations nationwide, along with malls in Puerto Rico, Japan, Korea, and Mexico. Tanger Outlet has over 30 locations in the U.S. Both offer AAA and AARP member discounts. Join their VIP Club and visit their Web sites for coupons and special offers. Check out their seasonal sales weekends and national promotions for extra savings in addition to everyday discounts.

First, and in some cases, second quality merchandise is available. You’ll have to bring along a magnifying glass to find flaws, though. Most are detectable only to the factory-trained eye.

These outlet stores are great places to shop. There’s no digging through clearance bins or blowing the dust off of merchandise that’s been sitting around for months. The stores are immaculate, the shelves are orderly and well stocked. The staffs are knowledgeable and helpful, the same as you’ll find in their retail stores. Many times, after making your selection, the clerk can bring you a “fresh” bag from the stock room. Care is taken to wrap your treasure in the store’s signature tissue paper, and deposit it into their trademark shopping bag.

Discounts typically run 20% to 40% off the MSRP, with deeper cuts of up to 65% off of sale and clearance items. Many of these stores offer a full guarantee on their products, plus a money back return policy. But, as with any store, ask before you buy. Keep in mind that these outlet malls are huge, so wear comfortable shoes and plan for a full day of shopping.

Great bargains can be found in retail giants such as Macy’s and Dillard’s Department Stores. These discounts are usually offered seasonally so you’ll have to watch for them. The selection of these bags will be limited, but you can expect to pay from 20% to 30% off their retail prices.

Leading discount department stores such as Ross Dress For Less, TJ Maxx, and Marshalls offer designer handbags. The selection varies. You might find a Diane von Furstenberg, Betsy Johnson or a Fossil bag mixed in with their non-designer bags. Merchandise varies from location to location. These are no-frills stores. If you don’t mind digging for a good deal, you can expect to save 20% to 60% off of department store prices.

Some of the most sought-after designer brands are offered at Websites such as Rue LaLa and Gilt Group. These sites offer members-only pricing on luxury brands, usually for a limited time. Shop early. Expect to pay sales prices of up to 70% off retail.

The website e-bay, along with many other online sites, offers designer handbags at considerable savings. The selection is wide and varied. New as well as used purses are available. You’ll have to pay shipping costs, in most cases, so take that into consideration when looking at their prices.

Consignment stores and vintage shops are also good places to find a handbag at a low price. Keep in mind these purses are gently used. Designer names and selection will vary widely. Inventory fluctuates so it’s good to check back often. Savings can be considerable.

No matter where you choose to shop for your designer handbag, it’s important that you can distinguish a genuine bag from a knock-off. Read product descriptions carefully. Do your homework. Know the tell-tale signs of a counterfeit bag. Don’t be afraid to ask questions.

There’s no need to deny yourself the joy of sporting a designer handbag when so many places offer great merchandise and outstanding discounts to the everyday fashionista. Get out and see what’s available. Shopping for your new bag is half the fun!

Beauty.com is excited to continue its ever-popular partnership with designer Lela Rose – offering a custom creation just in time for spring and summer, Beauty.com and Lela Rose launch the “Lela Rose Feather Painted Linen Beauty Clutch.”

Starting May 4, customers who shop online will receive this custom clutch and 16 deluxe samples with their purchase of $100 or more. The slim linen purse features the signature feather painted Lela Rose print from her spring 2010 collection. Accented with a handsome wooden closure, the clutch unfolds to reveal a bright citrine lining and two zippered compartments.

With a value of $135, this chic limited-edition clutch is perfect for carrying beauty essentials while also doubling as a stylish accessory or gift for Mother’s Day, bridal showers and summer birthdays.

The samples I’m most excited about include Urban Decay De-Slick In a Tube Mattifying Gel, Dr. Brandt Pores No More Pore Refiner, tarte emphasEYES High Definition Eye Pencil, and Bliss FatGirlSlim Skin Firming Cream.  And that’s not even mentioning the bag!  I love how Beauty.com ensures that their sample bags are as fabulous as the samples themselves, so nothing gets tossed aside.  If you’re not a clutch person or have too many bags (blasphemy, I know!) then consider using it as “gift wrapping” for any of your girlfriends with summer birthdays!

Chelsea Handler Wears Rene Caovilla

Washington, DC – On Saturday May 1st comedian and TV host Chelsea Handler attended the White House Correspondents Association Dinner wearing a Rene Caovilla gold and silver sequin clutch. For purchase information please visit Rene Caovilla online.

Chelsea Handler has an amazing body and looks like a Greek goddess with the hair, bronze skin, and all over glow.  I’m a little put off by the dress – it sort of looks like an extension of Nike’s sportswear line.  The bag, however, is divine.

What do you think?  Love her getup, hate it, or stuck in the middle?  Tell me in the comments!

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Bloomingdale’s. All opinions are 100% mine.

I’ve been hosting many fabulous contests and giveaways lately – but I’m not the only one!  Bloomingdale’s (and famed handbag designer Rebecca Minkoff) is currently running a fabulous promotion on their site.  Recently I discovered their Tote-ally Green design contest and am excited to share it with you gals today!  All you have to do is log onto their website and use a few easy tools to design a fun tote, preferably with an eco-friendly theme.  And no worries – if you already have a great image to use, you can upload that as well.

So, are you wondering what’s in it for you?  Viewers will vote on their favorite submissions every day and one winner will receive a $100 gift card!  Then, submissions will be whittled down to fifty fan favorites, and one Grand Prize Winner will win a $2,000 shopping spree and their winning design will be sold at Bloomingdale’s nation wide!  Also, the entrant with the most votes may also win a $1,000 shopping spree.  The contest is open now and will end April 25th, so make sure to get your entries in!  You can share on Facebook, Twitter (make sure to use hashtag #bloomies), etc. to share with friends and nab more votes, too.

I spent some time on the site earlier designing a tote for submission.  Try not to judge my artistic skills…  I tried!  The flowers are pretty, right?   Right…!?

A great tote is always in style, and wouldn’t it be fun to have one you designed yourself?  Get your entries in, gals, and feel free to share the link to your creation here so I can check it out!

Spring 2010 Handbag Trends (Pt. 2)

March 9th, 2010 by Laney

Welcome to Part 2 of my Spring 2010 Handbag Trend overview.  Whew – what a mouthful!  What were your favorite trends from Part 1?  I have mixed feelings about the trends below, so take a look…

STRAW

Straw

Admittedly, I was pretty wary of this trend.  I grew up in Vermont, which was a land of mullets and flannel – so straw handbags seemed like I’d see something the locals carrying.  After some searching, though, I discovered that straw handbags can actually be pretty!  The ones above have great texture, colors, and embellishments – which are the three things that make a handbag fun and fabulous.  And believe it or not…  several are carried by Wal-Mart.  Below are direct links so you can learn more about each bag, from left to right, top to bottom.

Cappelli Seagrass Straw Tote $40.50

Straw Studios Lily Bow Satchel $33.45

Straw Studios Brown $57.95

Yellow Straw Tote $33.60

Cappelli Medium Hand Woven Multi Straw $32.40

Cappelli Black Toyo Bag w/Beaded Handles $48.60

BRIGHT/NEON COLORS

Neon

Now neon is a trend I can really get behind!  I love bright colors and a handbag really adds a great pop to any outfit.  Lime green is my favorite color, I’m crazy about pink, and I’m feeling particularly drawn to yellow right now.  Above are some of my favorite neon handbags, but there are tons available!  Whatever your favorite color, keep wearing it this Spring – just find a brighter shade!  All of the selections below are from Handbag Heaven; use the icon at the bottom of this post to access the site and save 15% off your purchase!

Hayden Buckle Hobo $51.95

Caitlin Clutch $31.95

Ribbon Shoulder Tote $43.95

Spring Patent Quilted Tote $27.95

Lucy Patent Handbag $52.95

Haley Pleated Shopper $72.95

CROSS BODY (LONG STRAP)

Cross-Body

Cross-body bags are another trend I originally thought best kept in the 80′s…  But since some of my favorite designers and brands are on board with the look, there are actually some very chic options available!  If you have a fuller figure, this might not be the best trend for you – unless you stick to a very thin strap.  Otherwise, a thick strip dividing your figure in half cross-wise will likely be unflattering.  The only real issue I have with cross-body bags is that the strap tends to wind up caught between my boobs, which is awkward and unsightly.  Just something to consider!

Allison Messenger Tote $39.95 (Handbag Heaven)

Fossil ‘Capri’ Crossbody Bag ($78)

MARC BY MARC JACOBS ‘Croc of Q – Big Percy’ Crossbody Bag ($148)

Juicy Couture ‘Padlock & Key’ Leather Crossbody Bag ($148)

Nordstrom Embroidered Crossbody Bag ($64.90)

L.A.M.B. ‘Signature’ Crossbody Bag ($86.90)

EXOTIC LEATHER & PRINTS

EXOTIC

For those of you who want to wear animal prints but don’t know how to incorporate them, handbags are the perfect way.  Add a little drama without abandoning your comfort zone with one of the fabulous bags above!  I chose metallics in order to incorporate another trend; I think the two are stunning when combined.  Well, as long as you stick with refined bags and don’t pick ones with tons of fringe, piles of sequined, and giant monograms or logos!  Simple and refined or you’ll look like you charge by the hour…  All the styles above are from Handbag Heaven!

Brooklyn Bubble Satchel ($53.95)

Vintage Zebra Metallic Satchel ($53.95)

Leopard Patent Clutch ($23.95)

Zebra Print Brookstone Tote ($44.95)

Tiger Print Shoulder Bag ($47.95)

Zebra Sequined Hobo ($47.95)

Spring 2010 Handbag Trends (Pt. 1)

March 8th, 2010 by Laney

It seems like just about everything goes for Spring/Summer handbags and purses!  The good news is that you probably don’t need to go out and buy a new bag.  The bad news?  They’re all very, very tempting!  But I’m here to help – below are some of my budget friendly favorites (and a few splurges) so you don’t have to put an empty wallet in that new bag!

Bohemian

Boho

I’ve got to put it out there – I despise the Boho trend.  It was hard for me to find six palatable bags, although I don’t mind the two on the far right.  It seems like Boho is just a collection of all things ugly – whether they’re patterns, textures, or color.  However, I know some people dig it – so if that’s you, sorry!  Below are listings for the bags above, left to right and top to bottom.

Jessica Simpson – Jimmy Boho Chic Tote #1 ($91)

Lucky Brand ‘Boho’ Patch Shopper ($92)

Jessica Simpson – Jimmy Boho Chic Tote #2 ($91)

Carlos by Carlos Santana Handbag, Boho Chic Slouchy Hobo ($108)

Tree of Life Bag ($25)

Boho Ladies Fabric Bag ($26.99)

Hardware

Hardware

I’m thrilled to see that the studded/mirrored/otherwise embellished style is still alive and kicking.  These rock-chic totes are amazing with jeans and a blazer, but pair equally well with a girly Spring dress.  I have the Heather Tote (top left corner) and it’s super roomy – I actually use it as an overnight bag.  I adore it and am quite pleased with the purchase.  Bags with hardware like this tend to be more expensive, but all of the options above are from Handbag Heaven.  Use the Handbag Heaven icon at the bottom of this post to navigate to the site and you’ll receive an extra 15% off your purchase!

Heather Patent Stud Tote $69.96

SoCal Glam Tote $56.95

Heidi Convertible Grommet Bag $53.95

Bryce Studded Rock Bag $53.95

Ramsay Rock Tote $77.95

Juliette Patent Glam Tote $76.95

Textured

Textured

Texturized handbags are another one of my favorites.  Texture is a great thing to play with throughout your outfit, and an easy way to add interest.  While I usually stick to basic black with my handbags, I found some bags with fabulous color that I just couldn’t resist!  The Riley Ruffle Handbag (top right corner) is my latest obsession – it’s definitely on my MUST HAVE list.  This set is also all from Handbag Heaven, so once again, use the link at the bottom to get a discount!

Berkely Ruffle Tote $53.95

Carrington Flower Satchel $49.95

Jessa Patent Satchel $84.95

Riley Ruffle Handbag $79.95

Ellie Mae Patchwork Shopper $44.95

Adrianna Wave Satchel $59.95

Stay tuned for Part 2, where I’ll be discussing several more top Spring 2010 handbag trends!

Gilt Group Exclusive: DeGaulle Bags

February 12th, 2010 by Laney

“Today, along with the Olympic torch lighting, Gilt Groupe will be the exclusive online retailer for WANT Les Essentiels de la Vie DeGaulle bags. Gilt Groupe will offer 12 of the 47 special-run, numbered bags – one for each Olympic Games held since 1896, and numbered to correspond to each Olympic game e.g. Athens, Vancouver, etc. The bag comes with five interchangeable handles in yellow, blue, green, red and black, reflecting the colors of the Olympic rings and will be sold for $1,250.”

Regardless of the crazy high price tag, I’m still pretty in love with these bags.  The pristine white and array of handles is just really…  Appealing.  I’m not even sure why I love these bags, but I just know I do.  I guess that’s why they’re so expensive, no?

About Gilt Groupe:

Fashion Daily – Fashion and luxury at up to 70% off retail. Our hand-selected styles are on sale for 36 hours only.

Members Only – Membership is free and by invitation only. Invite your friends and receive a $25 credit after your friend’s first order has shipped. It’s worth it!

Their Guarantee – We guarantee that every item sold on Gilt is the designer brand it promises to be.

Spring 2010 Handbag Trend: Florals

January 14th, 2010 by Laney

Even though I rarely stray from my favorite black bag (it’s just so functional), I am a handbag fanatic.  I’m always super excited to see the new arrivals at Handbag Heaven, and the Spring selection does not disappoint!

Carrington Rhinestone Satchel

The color might not be very Spring-like, but the floral embellishment and the gorgeous pendant in the center add a wonderfully girly touch.

Roselyn Flower Satchel

Pretty purple, and a gorgeous bud on what looks like a modern bowling bag.  Very roomy, which is always something I look for in a bag!

Janelle Zipper Hobo

The zipper and stud embellishments are fantastic on this bag.  The mix of soft and hard detailing makes this a very versatile bag.

Jaycee Rhinestone Doctor’s Bag

This might be my favorite bag in the whole lot – the pattern is so intricate and and eye catching.

Rosie Patent Hobo

More zipper detailing – love it!  I’m also thrilled with the gorgeous pop of color and varying shades of blue.

Beaded Evening Bag

Clutches are a lot of fun, and this one has plenty of space for all your evening essentials.  The beading detail is so pretty I’d be tempted to take this baby out during the day, too!
