Style Superlative: Zoe Saldana in Floral for Fall!

September 26th, 2011 by Andrea Palmer

For those of you who don’t know, the latest trend to pop up all over the place (as in runway & real life) is floral. Personally, I’ve always considered floral to be a spring thing, but since fashion-week ended celebs, co-workers, and everyone really has been rocking the trend hard. The trend got a bit of a revamp at fashion-week so it’s not your usual Laura Ashley inspired look, and I kind of like the approach taken here by the lovely Zoe Saldana at a premiere last week. Zoe is naturally scintillating, but I love how she styled this look!

She is wearing a punchy floral Giambattista Valli dress, & Brian Atwood platforms (which are to-die for!). At first glance I thought for sure, that girlfriend was rocking a duvet cover she DIY-ed into a premiere frock. Looking again, I notice the bold pink stand out flowers amidst the more subtle delicate flowers. The detail is actually quite impressive and pretty.  Summer is officially over, and I don’t think we’ll see anything quite this bold again, but it was a nice punctuation to the red-hot summer season! If you’re looking to translate what we’ve been seeing at fashion-week try pairing paisely with denim under your fall sweaters to keep the look subtle, but still sweet.

What do you think of Zoe’s Look? Too granny or just right?

Andrea

All the sun and sleepless nights you enjoyed over the summer will likely leave you with a lovely parting gift of problem skin. Now you can easily undo summer’s damage with quick swipe of Comodynes: Convenient Cosmetics Easy Peeling: New Face Effect exfoliating towelette.

To use: massage on dry skin paying special attention to the forehead, nose and chin.  No need to rinse.

You can use the towelettes once or twice a week to invigorate your skin, with a light, citrus-y unisex scent. Can be used on both the face and body, and is ideal for use by both men and women.

One Bath and Body has introduced a nice alternative to squeezing your shampoo into a travel size bottle for flights. Solid shampoo and conditioner! Having something solid and resistant to melting in the summer heat is extremely appealing, especially since the cute packaging makes me look more organized.

ONE Solid Shampoo Bar ($7.99): Formulated with soothing oatmeal and conditioning natural oils instead of harsh chemicals, the bar lets you lather up with just three or four rubs over wet hair, providing a fresh-scented deep clean. Available Scents: It’s Green (for bouncy lively hair), Goldilocks (name should be a clue!), Squeaky Clean (for oily hair), Hair Biscuit (for yummy hair).

ONE Solid Conditioner Hair Boost ($7.99): Made with nourishing Shea Butter and Macadamia Nut Oil, this earth-friendly solid envelops hair in nourishing natural moisture for a soft tangle-free finish.
These products are Eco-conscious and so very pretty. The price isn’t bad either considering that they last as long as liquid shampoos and conditioners.

Frugal Summer Dating Tips from Andrea Woroch!

July 5th, 2011 by Andrea Palmer

Summer is the time to let loose and have fun. The sunny hot weather is only going to last for a few months, so getting out and enjoying the sun, sand, or city is a top priority. The last thing you need to be worried about is breaking the bank, while frolicking with your summer sweetheart.

1. Time-Sharing Babysitting
SitterCity.com shows babysitters in your area who will match your needs and budget, without busting your budget. Many families find it convenient to exchange babysitting services or have multiple kids from different families with a pair of sitters.

2. Avoid Alcohol
A glass of vino can make even reasonably priced dinners a little steep.Plan to drink and dine at a restaurant or bar that offers happy hour prices which is usually in the early evening. You can enjoy most drinks and food at very reasonable prices at a tapas bar or during afternoon specials.

3. Date With Gift Cards
Use a discount site like CardAvenue.com to save on gift cards to cool places. They will save you anywhere from 5 percent to 50 percent on restaurants and other entertainment activities.

4. Plan a Freebie
Not all dates require money. Activities — like hiking, biking or visiting farmers’ markets — don’t cost a dime and give you a better chance of bonding with your date.

5. DIY Date Night
Create your own dinner with a picnic in a local park. For a romantic touch, pack portable speakers with a pre-mixed playlist on your iPod as well as a bottle of wine and a few chocolate-covered strawberries for dessert. Not only is this DIY date an inexpensive alternative to a night on the town, but you’ll score extra brownie points for taking the time to plan this special event.

6. Get Pretty on Pennies
The internet and youtube provide many opportunities to hone your hair & make-up skills, so there is no need to spend money on fancy salon treatments. Not a DIY beauty superstar? Ask a friend for help curling your locks and pop by Sephora for a free makeover to really dazzle your date without spending a dime!

7. Seek Smart Advice from Smartphones
The Date Night iPhone app for example will help you find unique, interesting and affordable events that you can enjoy. The app randomly selects a “thing to do” for your next evening out, most of which won’t bust your budget.

8. Dial Into Daily Deals
Groupon, Living Social and other group-buying coupon companies offer some great deals — up to 50-percent off — on activities like wine tastings, boat tours, museums and comedy clubs.

Quick tip- If you’re worried about appearing “cheap,” redeem the offer when your date is in the restroom.

9. Go Cultural
Many libraries and coffee shops offer free poetry readings and musical entertainment. Look for art gallery tours or free museum days to improve your cultural IQ while impressing your date.

10. Create a Thrifty Movie Night
Instead of dishing out $20 for two movie tickets plus cost of all the typical movie accoutrements (ahem, popcorn, soda, and candy) Pick-up a free DVD from your local library or a new release for just a dollar from Redbox. Then dim the lights and serve some freshly popped popcorn or your date’s favorite candy for a theater-like experience without the sticky floors and shadows blocking the screen.

Review: Make-Up Forever Aqua Eyes!

May 12th, 2011 by Andrea Palmer

You may remember my introduction of this product. It promises waterproof capabilities, bold color, and an efficient, smooth application. I’m here to tell you that it delivers on all three. I personally wore Aqua Eyes for a full day and then showered with warm water. The liner stayed on so well I had to wash my face and use make-up remover afterwards! The liquid is smooth when it goes on, which greatly prevents any feathering or unintentional smudging. I would recommend this to a girl who has places to go, and people to impress as these colors are very vibrant and have shimmer in them. The shimmer in the formula is fine enough to be subtle, but still illuminating.

Aqua eyes comes in the following shades:

#1 – Diamond Gold

#3 – Iridescent Emerald Green

#4 – Diamond Lagoon Green

#5 – Diamond Turquoise Blue

#6 – Iridescent Navy Blue

#7 – Diamond Black Purple

#8 – Iridescent Electric Purple

#9 – Iridescent Fuchsia

#10 – Iridescent Red

#11 – Diamond Burgundy

#12 – Mat Mocha

#13 – Mat Black

#14 – Diamond Multicolor Black

#15 – Iridescent Anthracite

#16 – Diamond White

Now available at Sephora!

US- $23

Canada-$26

All of these colors seem very layerable! I used colors #8 and #15 which create a very vibrant smokey effect when layered. I can’t wait to go out and grab a few more I have my eye on!

Intimidated by liquid eye liner?

Don’t be, Make Up Forever offers a step by step tutorial on one of their newest Aqua Eyes looks. With this tutorial you can practice and eventually master liquid eye liner application. To view the tutorial click here.

What do you ladies use to line your eyes? Will you be heading out to try Make Up Forever Aqua Eyes?
