Alright, ladies! It’s time for a little quiz! Since it’s boot season, I thought we should all brush up on our fashion vocab, because informed shopping is the best sort!

Oh, and the boot in the photo? None other than the P-Tonto by the ever fashionable Steve Madden. You can pick yours up here and hurry! They’re currently on sale for $59.99 (down from $99.99).

~Foxing: A piece of fabric that is sewn (overlaid) over another part of the boot, simply for decoration.

~Collar: A layer of material at the top of the boot, usually in a contrasting color that is cut in a decorative design.

~Graft: The front of the boot, rising from the foot to the top.

~Mule Ears: Elongated pull straps that resemble long ears, sewn to the outside of some boots.

~Pull Straps: Straps that are used to assist in pulling the boot on.

~Piping: Rounded strips of material that run along the seams of the boots.

~Scallop: The V-Shape on the front and back on a cowboy boot.

Another really cute (and more practical) option? These Raleigh Boots from Report. They’re on sale for $50 (down from $109.99) and come in either Chocolate or Camel. They look really damn warm, and include: a seude upper with a lace up front, furry edging, a furry lining, side zipper, and a cushioned insole. Plus, they have a 2.5″ heel-and you know how I love high heels!
