“Women Are Crazy/Men Are Stupid”

“Which came first, the crazy or the stupid?

It’s the million-dollar question we all want the answer to.  Are women crazy because men are stupid?  Or are men stupid because women are crazy?  Not surprisingly, the way we answer these two questions divides us quite neatly along gender lines.  Because let’s face it, we all have a lot invested in the answer.  Women maintain that over the course of their lives they are driven slowly and methodically crazy by stupid men.  And men maintain that it’s impossible for any man to act smartly with a woman who’s out of her freaking mind.  If we can just prove one came first, the other side will have blaming rights for all eternity.”

Normally, I’m sooo not into self-help or relationship advice, touchy-feeling type books.  However, when I was offered a copy of “Women Are Crazy, Men Are Stupid: The Simple Truth to a Complicated Relationship” (by Howard J. Morris and Jenny Lee) for review, I was immediately caught by the title – and the awesome cover.

Morris and Lee are a real life couple, and they’re both hilarious.  The book is set up in the format of Morris writing a chapter, then Lee responding.  I can’t decide who’s funnier, although I’ll probably have to side with Lee – girl power, and all that.

Overall, the book wasn’t a huge surprise to me.  I did like reading the “other side of the story” that Morris shared, but I’ve had enough boyfriends that I’ve got a pretty good idea what’s going on in the male brain.  They’re the stupid, after all.  What I think is that MEN can benefit greatly from reading this book – if they’ll actually do it.  Morris not only details what he did wrong, but what he SHOULD have done; genius!  AND Lee gives the female perspective on WHY we get so mad, or well, crazy.  This is what I’ve been trying to spell out to my boyfriend for months, and what he keeps dismissing as my unique crazy.  This book proves that it’s a universal crazy, AND shows him he’s not the only one afflicted by the stupid.

I’m lucky; my boyfriend is actually reading this book.  In fact, he’s about 100 pages in.  I hope he’s learning something…  After all, Morris and Lee aren’t saying men are stupid overall; just in relationships.  And I don’t think anyone’s going to argue with that.

I highly recommend picking up a copy of Women Are Crazy, Men Are Stupid, just in time for Valentine’s Day.  It’ll do you both a lot more good than any flowers or candy!
